Co-op

Welcome!

We are a group of homeschooling families in the central Texas area who have gathered together to support one another. We have approximately 100 families in our membership. We would love to have you join us!

We generally meet on Mondays for a 10-week session each fall and spring. Our desire is to provide supplemental educational support, academic classes, and group activities for our children.

REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES FOR THE SPRING 2020 SEMESTER WILL OPEN ON

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10 AT 3:00 PM FOR EXISTING MEMBERS

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17 AT 3:00 PM FOR NEW MEMBERS

Mandatory Orientation - Monday, January 27
First day of regular classes - Monday, February 10
Last Day of Classes and Student Presentations - Monday, April 20

 

OUR STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
CenTex Christian Homeschool Co-op is organized to provide supplemental educational support and group activities for children. It is intended to complement the home educator’s curriculum with elective classes as well as core subjects to enhance our children’s studies in a Christian environment. Our classes are Biblical and creation-based. No doctrine is taught in classes. Participants agree to adhere to that at Co-op.

A TYPICAL CO-OP DAY
Our co-op meets at Temple Bible Church at 3205 Oakview Drive in Temple. We are grateful for this generous gift, and we seek to assist their church by helping with administrative tasks each week during Co-op.

We meet each semester for 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring on Monday afternoons. A typical day looks like this:

12:00pm - Setup crew arrives
12:45pm - Announcements for all
1:00pm - First class period
2:00pm - Second class period
3:00pm - Third class period
4:00pm - End of day and cleanup begins

Nursery-Kindergarten classes meet in their classrooms for all three periods. Snacks, music and outdoor activities are part of their day.

1st-12th grades choose three different classes, one each period.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

Our Co-op is open to any family whose oldest child is at least five years old on September 1 of the school year. All children need to be in age-appropriate classes for the duration that the family is at Co-op.  Please make sure that their birthdates are entered correctly to ensure that they are in age-appropriate classes.  Co-op participation is limited to your family and any of your foster children (not children for whom you may provide childcare).

We are absolutely a co-operative homeschooling group. Parents are expected to either arrive early to help set up, stay late to help clean up, or teach classes to earn points each semester. Parents must remain onsite and assist in Co-op activities throughout the day. Helping in Not for Credit classes does NOT fulfill the point requirement, but is expected of every parent to ensure our classes have adequate supervision/assistance. Every Co-op Family is required to serve at the Co-op and earn two (2) points each semester. You may earn points by:

  • Teaching a For Credit class (2 points)
  • Teaching a Not For Credit class (1 point)
  • Lead teaching a Pre-K or Kindergarten class (2 points)
  • Arriving at noon to Set Up for a full semester (2 points)
  • Staying late to Clean Up for a full semester (2 points)
  • Performing duties for the Church and Co-op assigned by Building Coordinator (1-2 points)

Background checks for all adults onsite are mandatory.

A non-refundable family fee of $100 per semester is due per semester along with any class fees (as indicated in the catalog).  The family fee must be paid *before* you will be able to register for classes (usually about 24 to 48 hours later, once registration has opened).

Current Co-op Families Early Registration Deadline: The Family Fee of $100 fee must be paid by Saturday, November 9 in order to register for Spring classes early, and the remaining balance is due by December 31 in order to attend Spring classes.

New Co-op Families Wanting to Sign Up as Soon as Classes Open: The Family Fee of $100 must be paid by Saturday, November 16 in order to register on Sunday, November 17 for Spring classes beginning in February 2020.  You may pay the Family fee later and register for available classes after these dates up to the registration deadline, but it will usually be two to three days after signing up before you will be able to register for classes, and be aware that class choices will be limited. Most classes fill up within the first few weeks of registration. 

All class fees must be paid by the registration deadline (August 7 for fall and December 31 for spring), and any class changes made after the registration deadline also incur a $10 class change fee.
