Statement of Faith

Christian Home Educators of Tucson - Northwest (CHET-NW) is an organization designed to offer fellowship, to encourage and equip one another in effectively raising, developing, and teaching our children. Our statement of faith includes those truths upon which all true Christians agree. It concerns the Person and Work of Jesus Christ (the Gospel) as revealed in Scripture. It is the faith once delivered to the saints (1) which distinguishes believers from non-believers. This is not a statement of all that is important to believe, but of all that is essential to believe for Christian fellowship and unity (2).
(1 Jude 1:3, Ephesians 4:5)  (2 Romans 15:7)

In accordance with CHET-NW By-laws, members shall believe, agree with, and affirm by signature the CHET-NW Statement of Faith and the CHET-NW By-laws.  CHET-NW members shall refrain from propagating any beliefs or ideas in contradiction to this Statement of Faith. Members must sign the Statement of Faith without amendment, additions or alterations to be eligible for membership.

This Statement of Faith, resolutely bound to scripture (as evidenced below by reference to book, chapter and verse) is provided to each family interested in becoming members.

-We believe the Bible, comprised of the Old and New Testaments, to be the one true and correct (1),   inspired (2), inerrant and infallible word of God (3), and to be the complete and final authority in faith and life (4).
( 1 Psalm 119:160)  ( 2 2 Tim. 3:16)  ( 3 Matt. 5:17-18)  ( 4 Proverbs 30:5-6)

-We believe that there is one living and true God (1); an infinite (2), intelligent Spirit (3), perfect in all His attributes (4), one in essence but eternally subsistent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (5).
( 1 Deuteronomy 6:4 Isaiah 43:10)  ( 2 Job 11:7)  ( 3 Isaiah 40:28, John 4:24)  ( 4 Deuteronomy 32:4)  ( 5 2 Corinthians 13:14, Matthew 28:19)

-We believe in the fall of man (1), although originally created in the image of God, through the disobedience of Adam (2), man fell into a sinful (3) and spiritually impotent state (4), totally unable to justify himself before God (5).
( 1 Genesis 3, Romans 5:12, 1 Corinthians 15:21-22)  ( 2 Genesis 3:17-19)  ( 3 Psalm 51:5)            ( 4 Ephesians 2:1-3)  ( 5 Romans 3:10-12)

-We believe that Jesus Christ is the express image of the invisible God, which is to say He is God (1); that He became man (2), yet without sin (3), being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary (4); that He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin (5); that He arose from the dead in the body in which He was crucified (6); that He ascended into heaven in that body glorified (7), where He is now, our interceding High Priest (8); and that He will return again personally, visibly, and gloriously (9).
( 1 John 1:1)  ( 2 John 1:14)  ( 3 Hebrews 4:15)  ( 4 Matthew 1:18-23)  ( 5 Isaiah 53:5-6, 1 John 2:2)       ( 6 John 20:27)  ( 7 Acts 1:9, 1 Corinthians 15:42-53)  ( 8 Hebrews 7:25, 1 Timothy 2:5)  ( 9 Acts 1:11, Matthew 24:30-31)

-We believe that salvation is wholly of God, by grace, through faith (1); that God in love gave His only Son to die on the cross for sin, thus procuring the redemption of those who come to Him (2); that this salvation is not merited in any way by man (3); that God commands men everywhere to repent of sin and believe in Christ (4); and that this salvation is eternal in its duration (5) and results in good works (6). We believe salvation is offered as a free gift and must be accepted by faith, not trusting in any personal work but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone. ( 1 Ephesians 2:8-9)  ( 2 John 3:16)  ( 3 Romans 11:6)  ( 4 Acts 16:31, 17:30-31)  ( 5 1 John 5:13)  ( 6 Matthew 5:16)

-We believe the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict individuals; and to indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.
(1 John 2:20-27; John 14:26)

- We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord, Jesus Christ.
(1 Peter 3:8; 1 Corinthians 1:10; Ephesians 4:3 & 11-13; Psalms 133:1; Galatians 3:26-28)

- We believe that marriage is a divinely ordained institution between one man and one woman.
(Genesis 2:22-24; Ephesians 5:22-33; Matthew 19:4-6)

- We believe that gender identity is determined by God at conception in a child’s DNA.
(Jeremiah 1:5; Psalms 139:13-16; Isaiah 44:24)

- We believe that sexual relations are to be expressed only inside a committed marriage.
(1 Corinthians 7:1-5; Hebrews 13:4-7)

This Statement of Faith does not exhaust the extent of our faith but rather is the basis for our faith. The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all that we believe.  We do believe, however, that the foregoing Statement of Faith accurately represents the teaching of the Bible, and therefore, is binding upon all members.

Conditions for Membership

As a member of CHET-NW, you agree to uphold the rules and standards of CHET-NW at all times while participating in any function that CHET-NW is in any manner associated with.

CHET-NW is a Christian parent-directed, family-funded, relationship-based homeschool support group that holds Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, and the Bible as the inspired Word of God.  All members are to recognize that the Bible teaches that Christians represent Christ and His body here on earth.  No member should at anytime conduct himself or herself in a fashion that would bring reproach to Christ or to CHET-NW and the homeschooling community.

With the Bible and Christ himself as our example and guide, CHET-NW sets forth the following conditions for membership.

  1. Following Christ, the supreme example, who gave himself continually during his time on this earth, all members are expected to follow his example by giving of their time to support CHET-NW through volunteer duties.  All members will be expected to sign-up for at least one volunteer duty, i.e. field trip, help at picnics, help at game day, help at annual kick-off, heading up an activity or club for CHET-NW families, etc. during the course of each school year that they are members.  If this is physically impossible, then please commit to pray for our group.
  2. Since the Bible instructs us that God establishes authorities over us, all members are expected to uphold the laws of our city, state and country.  Furthermore, all members are expected to respect the authority of CHET-NW Steering Committee and/or its designated representatives.
  3. Since God has established the family as the mechanism by which children are to be trained and guided, all parents are recognized as the leaders and authorities in their homes.  Parents are expected to have control over their children at any function they attend bearing the CHET-NW name in any manner or association.
  4. CHET-NW respects the God given rights of parents and will at all times include parents in the disciplinary action of their children.  All members are expected to cooperate with the CHET-NW organization.
  5. Consequences for refusing to follow the aforementioned rules will result in discipline ranging from simple removal from an activity for a brief amount of time to a suspension from the group for a semester or more.  Any parent/guardian that doesn’t wish to abide by the rules of the association and submit to authority of the association will be asked to leave the association and they will forfeit their membership dues.  If, at a later date, they wish to return, they must be willing to abide by the rules, submit to the authority of the association and pay the appropriate dues.

Activity Agreement

As a member of CHET-NW, you agree to uphold the rules and standards of CHET-NW at all times while participating in any field trip or activity that CHET-NW is in any manner associated with.

Purpose

The purpose of CHET-NW field trips, events and activities is to enhance the home education of the members of CHET-NW.  Our focus is to be a strong community of families were educators and friends take the time to help one another.  CHET-NW operates entirely on the volunteer and participation efforts of our members.  Active involvement in participation and volunteering is strongly encouraged.  Members are encouraged to help in activities/events that apply to their families interests.

In fitting with the Statement of Purpose established through Christian Home Educators of Tucson – NW, it is the desire of any field trip or activity coordinators to assist our families in their endeavor.  We believe it is our responsibility as parents to train our children in the ways of the Lord and the field trip and activity coordinators seek to enrich this process through the utilization of our community resources.

          Who May Attend

Field trips and activities are open to CHET-NW members only.  CHET-NW holds limited liability insurance.  If you host a field trip or activity using the CHET-NW name you must verify membership for all participants through a steering committee member. An Activity/Field Trip Authorization Form must be submitted to the Steering Committee and approved for ALL CHET-NW field trips and events where the CHET-NW name is used and its members are invited.  Otherwise, it is possible you may not be covered by CHET-NW insurance and you agree to be personally responsible.

Field Trips or Activities Requiring Payment

When signing up for a field trip or activity, payment must be received by the stated deadline unless arrangements have been made with the coordinator.

          Specific Requirements

Some events have certain criteria, which must be met in order for a group to attend.  These may be age/grade requirements, adult to children ratios, or specific academic requirements such as reading or writing ability.  These criteria are often in place for the ease of the venue’s staff and we, as a group, need to honor them.  These field trips or activities may be repeated each year and children will receive an opportunity to attend when it is appropriate for them to do so.  Parents are expected to make other arrangements for children who do not meet those requirements at the time of the field trip or activity.  Children under 5 are usually welcome unless specified in the field trip/activity description.

          Cancellations/Refunds

To fill openings on a field trip or activity due to cancellations, priority will be given to families on the waiting list.  Please do not send someone in your place if you must cancel.  Monetary refunds may be considered only in cases where families have made a conscious effort to contact the coordinator and have a valid reason for canceling.  Families are responsible for remembering which field trip or activity they have signed up to attend and refunds will not be given to those who forget about the event or fail to show up without making an effort to notify the coordinator.  It is possible some field trips or activities will have a portion of the cost that is non-refundable.

          Waiting Lists

Occasionally, more people want to attend a field trip or activity than we can accommodate.  In these cases, we will place families on a waiting list in the order that they signed up.  If the waiting list reaches the minimum for group requirements, the coordinator may plan an additional field trip or activity date or ask another member to.

          Basic Points of Courtesy

As we strive to live our lives in a manner pleasing to God and reflect our commitment to Him, we ought to take the time to follow a few simple matters of courtesy.  These might be issues such as appropriate attire, keeping an eye on our children, timeliness, staying together as a group, etc.  Remember that not only do we represent our families, our group; we also represent the entire homeschool community and most importantly, Jesus Christ.

          Parental Supervision

Unless otherwise noted in the field trip/activity description, parents will be expected to attend field trips/activities with their children or have a designated adult responsible (IN WRITING) for their children during the event.

      Refusal to Attend

Field trip/activity coordinators reserve the right to refuse anyone the privilege of attending a field trip or an activity if they have not followed the policies listed above, are disruptive to the group or venue, or if they place the group in jeopardy of attending the field trip/activity again in the future.
