Graves County Co-Op Crisis Plan

**General Safety Guidelines**

Upon arrival, all exterior doors will be checked to ensure they are locked, except for the gym door and the primary co-op entrance. By 9:15 AM, both of these doors should also be locked. All classes should enter and exit through the main co-op door. No doors should be propped open between 9:15 AM and 12:00 PM, unless a gym class is playing a game outside and requires the gym door to remain open.

All participants must wear a name tag during co-op hours for easy identification. A door monitor will be stationed at the primary co-op door and provided with a walkie-talkie, along with keys to the church building and the gym. The gym will also have its own walkie-talkie.

When switching classes between the gym and church building, students should remain in a group and be escorted by an adult.

If you are expecting a visitor, please notify the board as early as possible.

**Emergency Procedures**

*In the event of a tornado:*

A board member will ring the bell five times in quick succession. A message will be sent to all parents, and an announcement will be made over the gym walkie-talkie. All classes should proceed to the designated shelter area, located in the hallway near the preschool.

*In the event of an intruder:*

A prolonged ring of the bell and/or a message will alert the co-op. The announcement will also be made over walkie-talkies. Teachers should exit through the nearest door—using their discretion—and seek shelter at least one block away from the building. Once safe, please text or Facebook message all board members, or post in the Band group.

Call 911.

Never respond to a fire alarm during a lockdown.

**Walkie-Talkie Use**

The board will have two walkie-talkies: one for contacting the door monitor and one for communicating with the gym. A board member should make visual contact with the door monitor whenever the monitor interacts with someone who is not part of the co-op.
