Welcome to CPHE

Clay-Platte Home Educators (CPHE) is a group of about 100 families in the Kansas City Northland who have chosen to educate their children at home. If you are concerned about the quality of education your child is receiving and the values they are being taught, or the peer pressure and social agendas your child is being exposed to; if you want a stronger family unit and to have a positive influence on your children's lives, Home Education may be for you!

Regardless of the reason, millions of families throughout the country, have chosen to educate their children at home. It isn't easy, and it requires much sacrifice, but the rewards of watching a child learn and develop in character are incredible. As a child grows and blossoms into a well-grounded young adult, parents come to realize the sacrifice was worth every penny and moment spent.

Helping you answer vital questions

If you're contemplating home schooling, undoubtedly the biggest question on your mind is "How in the world do you do it?" Hopefully, this web site and its links will help you answer some of those questions.

As a non-profit organization, CPHE has existed since 1983 and is made up entirely of volunteers who organize activities, provide answers to questions, and offer support to families.

Communication

Communication is a major function of CPHE. Keeping everyone informed and connected is a vital task. Besides Support Group meetings, CPHE accomplishes communications through several means:

  • Support Group Meetings
  • Facebook: We have a public page as well as a members only group.
  • Forum: Used to post updates, ask questions, buy and sell or alert members to legislative action.
  • Web Site: Contains important information about CPHE, educational links, and much more.

How to Join

Memberships run from June 1 through November 30th and December 1st through May 31st. It is per semester.

Just click the Join button at the top

Membership Fees

Current and previous members will owe $175 in membership fees on June 1, and December 1, for the upcoming semester.  Volunteers who complete 10 hours of service will be credited $100. You may consider completing your service prior to June 1, and  December 1, as opportunities will become limited toward the end of semester. On July 1, and January 1, members who have not paid will be parked, meaning you will not have access to the website or communications. You are welcome to rejoin at any time.

New members pay $75 for their first semester.

Volunteer service hours may only be completed by member parents. Each parent may accrue separate hours for the family. Example: Both mother and father attend the work day at SLBC on Saturday from 8-12. This accrues 8 hours for your family. Example 2: Adult child and 2 younger siblings arrive an hour early to Showcase to help set up and stay an hour late to help clean up. Thank you, but at this time, this would accrue no service hours for a member family.

Families with newborns and other extenuating circumstances may receive exceptions. Please let a board member know if you are expecting (Congratulations!) or if you know of any family that is experiencing hardship.

Your team lead is your contact for volunteer opportunities. In addition to team opportunities, there will be other hours available at certain events. Your team lead is responsible for approving your hours. If you have questions about what team you are on, please contact cphechairman@gmail.com.
