Q: |
What is the Charlotte Mason method? |
A: |
SDG is a co-op founded upon the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education. While we are not purists in observing this method, we request that teachers make an effort to familiarize themselves with the philosophy, and align their classroom exercises with the Charlotte Mason style of learning. We utilize a broad range of living books and encourage verbal, written, or creative narration of readings. We believe that God, The Creator, is naturally infused into every subject, that children are capable of appreciating the finest art, music, and literature in its original form, and that the work of dealing with the accepting, rejecting, and internalizing of ideas lies with the child, not the teacher. The teacher is the presenter of the “feast”, and, is often pleased to find herself a fellow learner with the students. “The question is not, - how much does the youth know? When he has finished his education – but how much does he care? And about how many orders of things does he care? In fact, how large is the room in which he finds his feet set? And, therefore, how full is the life he has before him?”- Charlotte Mason
