A:

The website for MACHE (Maryland Association for Christian Home Education), found at www.machemd.org, provides a link for the Maryland approved umbrella schools.  SPEAR is a Maryland approved Umbrella School.

Q:

What fees should I be aware of?

A:

SPEAR has an annual enrollment fee of $65.00 per family for non-oversight, and $95.00 for oversight.  Also, new members pay a one-time, non-refundable fee of $25.00.

There are separate fees associated with class involvement for members desiring this opportunity. Each family registering for classes pays a $75 Class Registration Fee. This particular fee covers church usage for classes for the year. (electric, bathroom supplies, cleaning, etc.) In addition, teacher fees for classes choosen are the responsibility of each student participating in classes. Please be aware of these additional fees when making class choices.

Various activities provided throughout the year may require fees for participation. That information will be provided as details are presented.

Q:

What curriculum do you use?

A:

SPEAR is only a support group; we do not use any one curriculum, but peer members may recommend what has worked for them.  The homeschool family should choose whatever best suits their children's learning style and ability.
