Graduation? Already?By Barbie Towner and Vickie EdwardsIf you have a high school senior, this is THE year, the one you’ve had in the back of your mind for a long time as the year of your child’s graduating class. There was a time when 2015 seemed so far in the future you couldn’t even imagine it, what with the fact that your child was still learning to tie shoes/recite multiplication tables/compose a coherent paragraph. But now, here it is, right around the corner, and H.E.R.I. is ready to celebrate this milestone of high school graduation with you!H.E.R.I.’s graduation ceremony is all about the “pomp” in Pomp and Circumstance. Graduates, dressed in cap and gown, enter to that traditional graduation song, followed by a presentation of colors and the national anthem sung by one of our graduates. A local speaker gives an inspiring commencement message, and then it’s time to meet the graduates. This is what makes H.E.R.I.’s graduation special: each graduate is introduced to the audience via a short, prepared statement read by one of our speakers. As each graduate is introduced, pictures of the graduate’s journey of the past 12 years appear on the big screen for the audience to see. A good supply of tissues is a must for family and friends attending, as the photos go from baby or child to young adult in a moment, and the significance of the end of this particular journey is one where not a few tears are shed.Graduation ends with a presentation of the graduates and a traditional moment of fun as tassels are turned and caps are tossed. Following the ceremony is a brief cake and punch reception to finish off the celebration. If you’ve lamented the fact that your homeschooler will not have the opportunity to take part in the milestone that is high school graduation, know that H.E.R.I. is taking care of all of that for you. H.E.R.I. graduation is scheduled for May 16 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Jacksonville’s Evangel Temple Assembly of God, a beautiful venue with ample seating for all who want to celebrate with you. The first deadline for graduation registration is February 1st and the final deadline is April 1st. Look for more info under the “Jr./Sr. HERI Events” link on the H.E.R.I. website.
