Welcome to Learning and Families

We are a Christian Homeschool Support group serving families in and around Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida.  Our desire is to provide educational opportunities for both the homeschool parent and for our children in addition to being a community of support and encouragement.   We do this in a number of ways:

·          Monthly Parent Enrichment Meetings -from September to May, on the second Monday of each month, we provide a Parent Meeting for members of LAF and friends of homeschooling.  The meeting covers a theme important to the home educator.  There are announcements of upcoming events, an inspirational speaker, and the opportunity to enjoy social and educational support.

·          Co-Op - K-12th grade co-op is available to LAF members, including nursery and pre-k for younger siblings.  The elementary/middle school co-op meets once a week.  The high school co-op meets twice a week, offering a variety of classes for high school credit.  There is an additional fee for involvement in the co-op.  Fortunately, the fees are minimal thanks to a sponsoring family with a heart to help teach students a Christian Worldview. 

·          Mom’s Group - Twice a month moms are welcome to join our "Moms Only" outing. 

·          Small Groups – This is the core of our organization where families meet new friends, participate in field trips, and do some co-operative learning.  There are several available, including Middle and High School groups.

·          Workshops and Special Events - LAF sponsors several special events during the year which are run by our parent volunteers.   These include, the Spelling Bee, History Fair, Science Celebration, Field Day, and Curriculum Fair to name a few.   We also host a few workshops each year, requested by our members.  These often require registration and fees. 

·         Staying Connected – To keep you informed an interactive member website.  Our website is complete with a calendar of events, membership directory, forum for online discussions and announcements, and a wide variety of information and resources at your fingertips.  We also publish an on-line e-newsletter every other month with interviews, tips, student spotlights, recipes, and much more!   

Though most of our activities are for our membership, our Parent meetings are open to all homeschool parents in our community.

Finally, we love to celebrate through the year with a Christmas Party, Kindergarten Graduation, and Senior Recognition Night.  We publish an annual yearbook complete with a signing party.
