Heartland Home Educators!
Sign-ups for Iowa testing have closed.
Believing that God has given us the responsibility to prepare our children with the values and skills they need to lead fruitful lives, families in Heartland Home Educators have found that a great means to meet that responsibility is through home education. We define home education as both parent-directed* and privately-funded**, which differentiate home education from public and private schooling, whether at brick-and-mortar or virtual schools. Thankfully, families have several choices when it comes to educating their children. It has always been HHE’s purpose to support like-minded Christian families who choose to home educate their children.
You may be new to the philosophy of home education. Don’t worry. There are numerous resources to help you decide if it is the right choice for your family and to help you get started. To begin with, we encourage you to read the information on www.ochec.com, which is the website of our state organization, Oklahoma Christian Home Educators’ Consociation, Inc. (OCHEC). They can help you with getting started, understanding Oklahoma law, finding helpful website links, and answering FAQs. Also, be sure to attend OCHEC’s annual convention in the spring. It is a great place to learn and be inspired through workshops and speakers, in addition to the opportunity to see and purchase homeschooling curriculum. The Tulsa City-County Library has a large collection of homeschooling books as do local bookstores. Finally, the Internet has many useful websites on home education and curriculum.
If you find that a parent-directed, privately-funded education is part of God’s plan for your family, Heartland Home Educators would love to support you with our co-op classes, holiday parties, an active website with a forum, and other activities and tools. Click on the "I Want to Join" link on the left-hand side of this website and/or click on the link, "HHE Information Packet," and follow the instructions to mail in the requested information.
*Parent-directed: Parents are accountable and responsible for: the selection and implementation of all curriculum; attendance and school calendar; grades, transcripts, and diplomas; and testing and evaluations.
**Privately-funded: Parents are financially responsible for their children’s education. The children are not enrolled in a government-funded school.
