Senior Class of 2024 Graduation Guidelines

Our Board has adopted Graduation Guidelines for those wishing to participate in the Christian Home Educator's Connection ceremony for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.

Please make note of these guidelines.

The primary reason for the CHEC graduation ceremony is to serve/honor those parents and students who are members of CHEC and have reached the culmination of their high school efforts. In consideration of this, the Board has adopted the following guidelines to determine eligibility for participation in our graduation ceremonies.

  • Each family wishing to participate in the CHEC graduation ceremony must be members in good standing of CHEC by November 1 of the school year of the graduation (e.g., November 1, 2023, to participate in the graduation in May of 2024).
  • Each family wishing to participate in the CHEC graduation ceremony must be actively engaged in homeschooling their senior. For purposes of this policy, CHEC will use HSLDAs recommendation as its guide - actively engaged in homeschooling will mean parents instructing the senior at least 50% of the time. For special circumstances, such as actively homeschooled seniors in dual-enrollment courses for 60% of their work, the Board may make an exception. Such special circumstances should be presented to the President.
  • Each family wishing to participate in the CHEC graduation ceremony is encouraged to follow the recommended guidelines for honor cords. Those are: the student should have achieved one of the following - National Merit Semi-Finalist or Finalist, National Home School Honor Society member, Math Honor Society member, an ACT score of 26 or higher, or an SAT score of 1800 or higher. Parents are responsible for this decision.
  • Each family wishing to participate in the CHEC graduation must complete the required form and submit payment to the Senior Coordinator by November 1st of the school year of the graduation with payments completed by February 1st. (e.g., November 1, 2023, for graduation in May 2024).
  • Each family wishing to participate in the CHEC graduation ceremony, but not qualifying under the previously listed criteria, may appeal to the CHEC Board for an exception, for example, a family just arriving from an overseas mission or military assignment and not joining prior to the November 1st deadline.

The Board of CHEC reserves the right to refuse a student the privileges of participating in the graduation exercises (extra-curricular events and/or graduation ceremony itself) if the requirements listed above are not met. The Board also reserves the right to deny a student's participation in any event associated with CHEC due to conduct at odds with CHEC's mission, policies, articles, or bylaws.
