Track and Field Excellence!

The Meet of Champions is held at Baylor University after all the state track  meets  are  completed  where  each  state  champion  is  invited along with the top 20 highest ranked individuals in the state of Texas to compete against each other to determine a true state champion.  This includes all UIL divisions, all TAPPS divisions, the SPC champion, the  TCAF champion and the HSAA (Home School Athletic Association) champion. FEAST qualified a record 23 athletes into this meet, the most from any school in Texas as the result of their state titles won at the Homeschool State track meet in April.

The most notable FEAST performance was sophomore Greyson Lee’s  performance in winning the Triple Jump title. Through the first four jumps  Greyson was leading with a jump of 45’ 0.5”. On Greyson’s fifth jump, he  bettered his mark with a jump of 45’ 8.5” and remained in first going into the sixth and final jump. Another competitor, Gregory Chikaeze of UIL 6A  Allen HS, then jumped 45’ 9” to take the lead by a half an inch. Greyson had  one more jump. On Greyson Lee’s final jump he went 46’ 1” to win and become the Triple Jump Meet of Champions winner. Later Greyson followed  his triple jump title with a third place finish in the Long Jump with a mark  of 21’ 5 1/4”.

A second notable performance was Matthew Torvik’s third place finish in the 2K steeplechase.  Matt ran a beautiful, smart race as he began in last place and then gradually moved up through the field utilizing his smooth and efficient hurdling of the barriers. Matt also was very efficient in attacking the waterjump  each lap. With 100 meters to go Matt had moved into contention with two other competitors  for the race win. Grant Tiff of Lucas Lovejoy and Zephry Seagraves of College Station finished  first and second with Matt Torvik finishing a close third in his personal record performance of  6:13.87.  Matt’s time is ranked at the 13th best High School 2K Steeple time this year.

Finally, Steven Finley ran an impressive double in the two hurdle races. Steven finished fifth  in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.58 and then was sixth in the 110 high hurdles in 14.99.
