History

The James River Home School Foundation, recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, was formed in the fall of 2009 as a Christian organization with a desire to serve the home school community in the area of artsathletics, and academics, by giving more home school students more opportunities for athletic and extra-curricular activities.

Our initial offering as the James River Eagles was our Co-ed Recreational Volleyball program for teens, as well as Boys Interscholastic Basketball, fielding middle school and high school teams in the fall of 2009 through the spring of 2010. We also offered a Bible class which was well attended.

In the fall of 2010 we added Girls Interscholastic Volleyball and continued our  Co-ed Rec Volleyball program for teens, which we offered in the spring and fall. We added Girls Interscholastic Basketball for middle and high school students to our graded Boys Basketball program and in the Spring of 2013 we became founding members of the Capital City Athletic Conference (CCAC) .

In addition to our athletics program we began sponsoring CounterACT, a drama ministry with a stated mission of "reclaiming the dramatic arts for Christ" and which was founded and directed by home school graduate, Georgianna Mills in 2010.  The drama ministry team travels to various churches, youth groups and senior groups to minister through drama. We continued with the Bible class and offered art classes, a Biblical Greek and Hebrew class and a math club.

In 2011, in addition to continuing with all of the above Interscholastic and recreational sports we held our 1st Annual Home School Talent Showcase, and CounterACT's CandleLight Players presented their first Dessert Theater - the CandleLight Players provides a unique opportunity for homeschooled students in 6th - 12th grades to act outside of a drama class. We continued to offer the Bible Class taught by Rev. Steve Battaglia.

In 2012, we continued all of the above athletic programs, held the 2nd Annual Home School Talent Showcase, and continued with CounterACT's drama ministry team. We hope to be offering a branch of CounterACT called NarrowWay that focuses on full-scale dramatic productions that edify and inspire audience and actors alike.

Academically, we are growing and in 2012 we announced the appointment of Mrs. Cheryl Hair as our volunteer Academic Director. We had initial offerings of French, Geography, Computer, Acting, Bible and our Eaglets Morning Out -preschool class.  The Titus 2 Mom's support group also came under our umbrella.

During the 2013/2014 school year we introduced the James River Home School Academy which offered "for pay" classes and met on Tuesdays and Thursdays; as well as the James River Family Co-op a "true" family co-op which met on Wednesdays.

Also in November of 2012, we launched the James River Fellowship, sponsored by the James River Home School FoundationProclaim & Train International, and Ripe for Harvest. We met every Saturday evening at 6:30pm glorifying God through praise and worship, seeking God in His Word, in fellowship with Him, and fellowship and encouragement with one another; until 2014 when Rev. Steve Battaglia was called to pastor Capron Baptist Church in Capron Virginia.

We are also so excited about the James River Home School Foundation's Lending Library/Resource Center, "LLRC" which opened for our members in November 2012. The database on the LLRC website already has  several thousand books and is growing.  The library is currently located at Pine Street Baptist Church, 400 South Pine Street in Richmond.

We continue to praise the Lord for planting the vision of the James River Home School Foundation and we thank Him daily, from whom all these blessings flow. We encourage you to join with us in our mission.
