A SPECIAL BOOK CLUB

WE ARE NOT SPONSORING  THIS BOOK CLUB THIS YEAR. We are exploring a possible monthly American Girls Club. Stay Tuned.

Grace Christian Homeschoolers Hosts:

(You do not have to be members of our group to participate.)

The Pickwick Story Club

This is a monthly literature club for 12 home schooling young ladies in grades 5 - 8 and their mothers.

We meet monthly, generally on the 1st Tuesday, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in North Central or Northwest Phoenix. We are meeting Sept. 23 & Dec. 2 at the Glendale Library, Main Branch---5959 W Brown St. (Just south of Peoria in Glendale)

We discuss literature and our writing inspired by it; participate in crafts, games and other thematic activities. Sometimes we read the same selection; other times we read works of individual choosing on the same topic, genre or time period and students share their choice of a short oral or written or illustrated book report.

This club is meant to inspire young ladies to read and journal, share ideas about both, and enjoy group activities and friendships with like-minded home schoolers. Yes, it's educational but the emphasis is on literary enjoyment, not strenuous academics. We plan to have a few social get-togethers during the year as well.

Daughters commit to read or listen to one book monthly and to journal at least once a month; Mothers sign up to prepare and bring a snack or activity (craft/game) to share or to be "back up" for another mom each month.

"Above all we need, particularly as children, the reassuring presence of a visible community, an intimate group that enfolds us with understanding and love, and that becomes an object of our spontaneous loyalty, as a criterion and point of reference for the rest of the human race."   Lewis Mumford
