GENERAL DESCRIPTION

CHOOSE CT is an acronym for Christian Homeschoolers Organization of Southeastern Connecticut. The group was formed approximately 15-20 years ago by five or six local homeschooling families as a place where they could provide support for each other in their roles as Christian home educators, and as a place where they could provide educational enrichment and social activities for their children.

CHILDREN & FAMILIES
The group is currently about 50 families strong, encompassing ~150 children. Of that number, ~115 are currently of school age (grades K-12) and are being educated by their parents. Our families range in size from one to eight children, with the median being three to four children per family. Our children range in age from two to seventeen, the largest group being age 10. Most families homeschool all of their children; however, we have a few families who homeschool one child while another attends public or private school.

GEOGRAPHY, FAITH PRACTICE, & EMPLOYMENT
The geographic boundaries of CHOOSE CT extend from Pawcatuck to the east, Old Lyme to the west, Baltic to the north, Colchester/Lebanon to the northwest, and the Connecticut shoreline to the south. The denominational composition of CHOOSE CT includes mostly evangelical Protestant.  Most families are one-income with the fathers working and the mothers serving as primary educators. The Navy, Coast Guard, and defense contractors employ a majority of our fathers, with Pfizer being the second largest employer.

GROUP GOVERNANCE
CHOOSE CT is steered by a Coordinating Council that is governed by operational guidelines and is comprised of the following officials who are elected annually by the CHOOSE CT membership:

- Co-Coordinator I
- Co-Coordinator II
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Membership Coordinator

RECIPROCITY AGREEMENT WITH ECHO
In 2005, CHOOSE CT and ECHO, the Eastern Connecticut Christian Homeschool Organization, forged a reciprocity agreement, whereby members of each support group, upon payment of annual membership dues and completion of a statement of faith, have access to the meetings and activities of both support groups. This agreement was created to foster greater support and cooperation amongst Christian homeschoolers in our state and to lay the foundation for what may someday become a Christian homeschool network.
