ABOUT FAMILY TREASURES

Hi, and thanks for looking into Family Treasures.

Family Treasures is a Christian homeschool support group and academic co-op working together to create Christ-centered opportunities for long-term fellowship and learning. Family Treasures Homeschoolers currently has members from the Lehigh Acres, Buckingham, Alva, Cape Coral, Gateway, and the Fort Myers areas. For those of you outside of this area, you’re also more than welcome to participate.

Family Treasures consists of two parts-- our homeschool support group and an educational co-op. FT co-op meets in Lehigh Acres for three class hours and another hour of optional recreation. The co-op meets on Friday mornings with the last Friday of the month as a park or field trip day. We have two semesters per year, usually September – December and January - April. All members of Family Treasures are invited to participate in group activities; co-op is open only twice a year. (See group activities below.)

Our Students

Our students participate in age appropriate classes for grades K-12, as well as nursery and preschool programs.

Our Classes

We have a wide variety of very talented parents who offer classes such as biology, debate, guitar, art, science, woodworking, apologetics, survival skills, manners/etiquette, business, sewing and music. One parent from each family teaches at least one class and helps in at least one class each semester.   New members will only be asked to assist in the classroom(s) the first semester. Note that all classes are not available every semester. This is just an example of previous classes. Each semester will be new and different classes.

Other Group Activities

Once a month, we schedule several activities for support and getting to know each other. These activities include homeschool support meetings, teen/tween events and mom’s night out. We are always looking for field trips for our group to enjoy.  The last hour of co-op (1:00 to 2:00) is a social/ lunch hour and is open for all Family Treasure members.

Our Leadership Team

We have an elected board of directors and bylaws for our association.

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of Family Treasures is to represent the homeschool community in a manner that honors Jesus Christ. We aim to provide our children with educational opportunities that promote academic excellence and spiritual development in class settings under the supervision of other Christian homeschooling parents, and to enjoy family social time, educational field trips, and group activities for our children. We are also here to provide an atmosphere for exchanging techniques and curriculum information.

Statement of Faith

Family Treasures is a body of homeschoolers from various Christian traditions, believing in one, triune God – the Father; His Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Spirit.

As parents, we prayerfully and gladly accept the responsibility of educating our children.

Our instruction reflects a Christian world view solidly rooted in the Holy Bible.
We are comfortable praying together, discussing God, and sharing Bible stories and verses.

Statement of Community

We acknowledge there are denominational differences between us, but we choose to concentrate on our spiritual unity as believers through our common faith in Jesus Christ and will not allow lesser doctrinal differences hinder our cooperation as Christian home educators.

Membership

Membership is open to all Christian homeschooling families who are in agreement with the Bylaws. Family Treasures is a parental, cooperative group. Membership demonstrates a willing heart to serve the group. For the purposes of the co-op, family is defined as a male and female parent, married with one or more children (Genesis 1:26-28), or single parent, or adopted, foster or step children (James 1:27). Member families must currently be homeschooling. Homeschooling is defined as any schooling that occurs in the home (preschool to high school) including- -but not limited to- -homeschooling under the FL law or under a charter school.

Membership Cost

Our group currently has approximately 20+ families. Currently dues are $25 per family per year. To participate in Co-op there are additional costs per class per semester. These fees are kept as low as possible; many have no cost at all.
