BECCA'S CLASSES AT THE SALVATION ARMY, 2009-10
Quite a few of you already know that Becca Hubbard will be teaching homeschool enrichment classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Salvation Army and have even tried to sign up! We know her classes will be wonderful and are really excited to have her teach this year! Below is a schedule of Becca’s classes (in blue) and other important details. There is some flexibility in the classes - especially on Wednesdays. If you would like one of Becca’s classes at a different time let us know and we might be able to arrange it. We need about 6 students to form a class and try to coordinate with Salvation Army P.E. and Spanish. The registration, set-up and pricing are very similar to the Spanish classes.
If you would like to meet Becca Hubbard and discuss the homeschool enrichment classes or tutoring possibilities, she will be at the SHARE New Homeschoolers Seminar on September 1 and the SHARE Support Group meeting on September 8!
Contact Kerrie Tate at kertatehomelink@aol.com or 314-791-0000 with any questions or to register. Scroll down for registration info and much more!
Have a good weekend! Kerrie

INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BECCA’S CLASSES
- Becca Hubbard has a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois. Her twenty-one years of teaching experience have encompassed pre-K through adult education, the majority of those years in full-time elementary classrooms. She has tutored in a variety of subjects at Sylvan Learning Center and privately and is now available for tutoring as her schedule permits. This year, she will be teaching homeschool enrichment classes in conjunction with the Homeschool Physical Education schedule. She is married to Homeschool P.E. teacher Cort Hubbard.
- Exploring Ancient Egypt,– This course will survey the history of Ancient Egypt, seeing where the events of the Bible fit into Egypt’s history, will take a look at daily life in Ancient Egypt. Some of the projects will include making a salt dough map of Ancient Egypt, constructing sugar cube step pyramids, writing student names in hieroglyphics on a cartouche, and mummifying a chicken. The class will finish the spring semester with an Ancient Egyptian Feast. Exploring Ancient Egypt Part 1 is the first semester, and Exploring Ancient Egypt, Part 2 is the 2nd semester (beginning in January)
- Discovering U.S. Geography - The course will cover the states and capitals by regions, including major mountain ranges, rivers and important landmarks. The class will also learn patriotic songs and symbols of our country, along with some Missouri state history. Next semester, Becca will offer World Geography.
- Becca’s classes at the Salvation Army for the first semester will begin on Tuesday, September 15, or Wednesday, September 16 or Thursday, September 17 at the Salvation Army Gateway Citadel Building, 824 Union Rd., St. Louis Mo., 63123. The first semester classes will run for 13 weeks, until the week of December 14, 15 & 16. There will be no classes on November 24, 25, 26 because of the Thanksgiving holiday. The class is one hour per week. The same class is offered multiple times.
- To register for the classes, please send an email to Kerrie Tate at kertatehomelink@aol.com and include class name, day, and time along with a parent name, address, home phone number, cell phone number, and the student’s name, grade, and age,
- Classes will hopefully be $5 per class per student if the class size is large enough (at least 6 students). Payment for the entire semester will be due on the first day of class, if possible. The semester price would be $65 ($5 X 13 weeks). There willl also be a $5 materials/copy fee per student. Families can work out a payment plan with Becca if necessary. Payment plan must be decided before the first day of class so we don’t waste valuable class time.
- Becca has designed her own curriculum for Exploring Ancient Egypt and Discovering U.S. Geography. There will be no curriculum purchase required. Stay tuned for an update on school supplies needed for the classes.
- If you have any questions contact Kerrie Tate at 314-791-0000 or kertatehomelink@aol.com and she will give you Becca’s phone number and email address (We don’t want to spread the teachers’ personal info through cyberspace!)
