PERFORMING ARTS

Performing Arts for The Home-Educated Student

Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra

The BSYO is comprised of students ages 6-18 who are admitted through a competitive audition process.  We are committed to the training of talented young musicians by professional musicians and conductors.  The students are offered the opportunity to expand their skills in classical music and to work with a peer group that has attained the same level of expertise and talent.

The BSYO has three orchestras to choose from:

  • Under the direction Linda Woodrich, the String Ensemble is a training orchestra for students with some experience on their instruments and basic note-reading ability.

  • Under the direction of Dr. Thomas Silliman, the Concert Orchestra is for students who are proficient on their instrument and wish to gain orchestral experience.

  • The Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of guest conductors Staci Cleveland, Wayne Bresette, and Michael Garasi, is comprised of advanced students performing challenging orchestral literature.

Under the professional direction of Teree Estcourt, these classes will be for 5th thru 12th grade at Vineyard Christian Fellowship

The Vineyard is located one block west of U.S. 1 on the south side of Eau Gallie Blvd. in the bank building.  (1052 Cypress Avenue, Melbourne)

The first four classes are "trial" classes, during which time students can decide whether or not they would like to commit to the class.  During this time, the instructor will be evaluating each student for class-readiness, attentiveness, maturity & interest level and will make recommendations for each student's needs.  If a student decides not to continue classes at the end of the four-week trial period, no payment is required.  If a student decides to continue in the class after September, we would strongly urge you to remain committed to the group through the year-end (spring) performances, if at all possible.  We expect to have performances during both semesters.

The Brevard Children’s Chorus exists to teach children to achieve high artistic standards through choral singing and performance.  An equally important aspect of the Chorus is the nurturing and growth of discipline, responsibility, teamwork and self-confidence.  We expect to achieve this goal and will strive to make Brevard Children’s Chorus one of the finest children’s programs which will benefit each child for their entire life.

Membership in the Chorus is open to boys and girls who will be in grades 5-8.   We are looking for singers from public, private, charter, and home-school settings.   Children from all economic and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to audition.  Prior singing experience is not required.
