Teaching Textbooks - Math
Teaching Textbooks? were designed specifically for independent learners, they simply have more teaching/explanation than any other product on the market. We realized that independent learners needed a product that contains the maximum amount of teaching, so a Teaching Textbook?, with its approximately 700 pages of text and 120 - 160 hours of teacher instruction on CD-ROM, is both a teacher and a textbook combined into one. And the CD-ROM teaching isn?t just abstract lectures either. There are also down-to-earth, audiovisual step-by-step explanations for every single one of the almost 3,500 problems in the book. Using a Teaching Textbook? is like having a friendly tutor available at the push of a button, but for only a fraction of the cost! Other products claim that they can be used without the assistance of a teacher, and this may or may not be true. But shouldn?t a truly ideal product for independent learners contain step-by-step teacher explanations for all those times when you might get stumped? We think so.
Math·U·See's goal is to help produce confident problem solvers who enjoy the study of math. The reason we study math is so we can apply what we learn in everyday situations. The students learn their math facts, rules, and formulas, and are able to use this knowledge in real life applications. The study of math is much more than committing a list of facts to memory. It includes memorization, but it also encompasses learning the concepts that are critical to problem solving.
Excellence in Writing

Five In A Row (FIAR)
Five in a Row was created by Jane Claire Lambert, a successful home-school teacher with more than 17 years experience. Five in a Row provides students with a unit-study approach to early education based on outstanding children's literature. Together, the three volumes of Five in a Row provide 55 lesson plans covering Social Studies, Language, Art, Applied Math, and Science in a way that causes children to fall in love with learning.

Intended to be easily usable, even for new homeschool mothers, each days activities are carefully laid out. Expect to be ready to teach with as little as five minutes of preparation time. You'll find everything you need to be an effective teacher at your fingertips-pronunciation guides to foreign words or phrases, background information on history, geography, art and science lessons, facts, figures, and activity suggestions for a wonderful variety of hands-on learning experiences.
Welcome to KONOS...
...from our home to your home. That?s what KONOS is about... one home schooler talking to another home schooler... sharing curriculum designed by two homeschooling moms for their own children. It?s about sharing 24 years of homeschooling experience. It?s about passing on a vision to build families that honor God. It?s about instilling Godly character in the next generation. It?s about building relationships between family members. It?s about achieving excellence in education. It?s about reading wide and deep. It?s about recognizing "God put the wiggle in children, and we should not try to take it out." It?s about hands-on activities capturing children's attention and increasing their retention. It?s about teaching a child, not a curriculum. It?s about fun and laughter and shaping memories. It?s about creating a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Mary Pride, author of The Big Book of Home Learning, calls KONOS "the greatest set of home school activities ever!" We think you will too.
My Father's World
Recognizes the Bible, God's truth, to be the foundation of wisdom and education.
Utilizes hands-on, unit studies with daily lesson plans that are easy-to-teach.
Enables families and multi-age groups to learn together. Many of our programs may be taught to a range of ages simultaneously.
Combines the best of Charlotte Mason's ideas and classical education with a Biblical worldview, an international focus and our own observations of how children learn.
Uses a comprehensive sequenced learning program beginning with preschool learning toys to develop readiness skills. Our complete unit-based curriculum includes a phonics-based learning-to-read program and focuses on God's amazing creation (kindergarten), the world of the Bible (first grade), and U.S. history (second or third grade). Then a year of geography sets the foundation for four years of chronological world and U.S. history.

Winter Promise
WinterPromise started as an idea.

An idea that parents could enjoy all the benefits of the best of all homeschooling approaches, with little to none of the drawbacks.

Working from the idea that literature communicates powerfully to young minds, we developed a curriculum that is strongly literature-based. This helps us offer to parents the opportunity to do less teaching and more "learning together" with their children. This "Learning Together" method has the additional benefit of requiring almost no preparation for the parent, preserving as many moments as possible for "face-to-face" time with their children.

These living, wonderful books were able to capture the imagination of children, turn them into better, curious readers, and help them to remember historical detail in a way nothing else would. In addition, we chose books, especially for our younger learners, that drew them in visually first. The graphic approach of these books also helped include kinesthetic learners, as they are able to trace maps with their fingers, find objects on the page, or search for visual clues to questions their parents asked.

Literature is marvelous, but it has its limitations, especially with hands-on learners. Thus, we add a vibrant activity set to each of our programs. These sets offer activity kits, books, and ideas to help parents introduce a hands-on aspect to the time with their children. These times create family memories and a family culture.

In our language arts, we add interesting workbooks so some of your children can be working independently while you work one-on-one in another area with another student.

In short, we've taken all of the best for you and combined it into one package. With your guidebook in hand, you have everything you need to begin a journey with your family this year that can continue for a lifetime.

It's why we say we offer you "Literature, Activities, Memories."

Our mission is to find games that are both fun and appropriate. There are many computer game review sites out there. Ours is unique and offers a different perspective on today's computer games. Language Arts
AVKO Sequential Spelling
AVKO comes from Audio, Visual, Kinesthetic, & Oral a multi-sensory approach.

Sequential Spelling is AVKO's premiere seven level spelling program for the teaching of the patterns of English spelling within seven normal public school years. Note: Many homeschoolers complete all seven levels at a much faster rate. As there are twice as many days in a regular year (2x180=360) with an extra five (for good behavior), two levels can be completed with just one ten minute lesson every day, Monday through Sunday. Two ten minute lessons a day, every day, one in the morning and one in late afternoon will get you through 4 levels in one year.
Center for Literacy
You?ve found an exciting new resource for the homeschool parent or classroom teacher: a complete literature curriculum that teaches not only comprehension, but also analysis and interpretation -- and allows the teacher to learn right along with the student! Web English Teacher
How do we convince people to agree with us? From simple paragraph structure to sophisticated forms of logical argument, from propaganda techniques to Horatian satire, writers use a variety of strategies to convince different audiences. Understanding these methods is essential for both readers and writers.
KISS Grammar
If you are reading this, you are probably dissatisfied with the way that grammar is being taught in our schools. You have reason to be. I have spent more than fifteen years of studying the problem -- as a teacher of writing at the college level, and as editor of Syntax in the Schools, the only publication devoted to the question. This site offers 1) numerous essays that explore the problem, 2) specific suggestions about what grammar should be taught in which grade levels (including explanations of how and why), and 3) a large selection of instructional material, including answer keys so that parents and teachers can study the KISS approach and decide for themselves if it makes sense.

The situation in our schools is a mess. Because most teachers have little training in grammar, and because some teachers are even claiming that grammar should not be taught, reform will probably not come from within the educational system. Significant improvement therefore depends on heavy involvement by business leaders and the general public. You can help by exploring the materials on this site, and, if you think they are worthwhile, spreading the word and advocating their implementation in your school system.

Parental Rights - Petition
Parental rights will be an urgent matter in Washington not when the UN Convention agents are at your door, but when sufficient Americans are at the doors of Congress, demanding protection now.

The time to fight is now. HSLDA is drafting a constitutional amendment and circulating it to friendly lawyers and organizations for review and comment. Once the text is done, we will find sponsors in the House and Senate. Achieving sponsorship, passage, and ratification will take an unbelievable effort from all of us and all of our allies. But we must not rest until the amendment becomes law.
