FAQs

Q:

How much does MHE cost?

A:

MHE has an annual membership of $15.00 that offers access to:  the secure member pages of the website, field trips, group rates to Black Hawk Children's Theatre productions, picnic in the park dates, and Mom's Night Out gatherings, and other planned family events. General membership in MHE is required in order to participate in Monday morning high school classes and Monday afternoon co-op classes.

Q:

What is Co-op/Monday Class?

A:

MHE holds classes on Mondays in the fall and spring for an opportunity for our children to have some fun in a group setting.

There are morning classes offered for older children (normally high school classes) that run for 15 weeks each semester.  Morning classes meet from 9:00 - 12:30pm.  The morning classes run a few weeks longer than the afternoon classes because they are more academic in nature and parents may choose to apply high school credits where applicable.  For morning classes only students may be dropped off.

Afternoon classes are offered for children ages 5 through teens for 10 weeks each semester.  There are nurseries available for children ages 0-4.  Afternoon classes run from 12:45-3:00pm.  Afternoon classes are run as a cooperative (co-op) meaning a parent/guardian MUST be present and assisting in classes at all times during the afternoon class time. The only exception to this rule is if a family has registered only for the teen class. A family that is registered for only the teen class may choose to drop their teen off for an additional fee of $50.

Class offerings change each year depending on what parents are willing to teach.

Click the Class Registration link on the top menu to see what classes are currently being offered.

Q:

How much do classes cost?

A:

In order to participate in morning classes or afternoon classes each family pays an annual building fee of  $60. This fee pays for insurance and renting the building.  Additionally, morning class fees are determined by the teacher and paid directly to the teacher.  Afternoon class fees are per student and are determined based on costs associated with providing the classes offered. Afternoon class fees are paid to MHE. Current class offerings and prices can be seen on the General Class Info page.

Q:

May I leave the premises while my child is at afternoon classes?

A:

Afternoon classes are NOT set up as a 'drop-off' activity.  In order for afternoon classes to function effectively and safely for everyone, it is required that a parent/guardian is on site for each family and teaching and/or helping in the area(s) assigned to them.

If for some reason you need to leave the premises you must appoint a substitute mom who is willing to take care of any issues that may arise with your child/ren.  This must be communicated to a Class Coordinator.

Q:

What if I don't want to come to MHE Monday classes.  Can I still be a member of MHE?

A:

Absolutely!  We have members that join MHE to have a connection to a homeschool support group, but don't attend Monday classes!  We look forward to seeing you at the family events, field trips and Mom's Night Out events!
