Q:

What is The Network?

A:

The Network, which was founded in 1999, is a group of like-minded homeschool families and teachers that comes together on Mondays to equip high school students for life in a Christ-centered environment. We are not a school, but we do connect students with teachers who have a passion for their subject areas. We cooperate with and rely on parents' help to run class days.

The Network meets on Mondays throughout the school year at Grace Church in Des Moines, Iowa.

Q:

What is the application process for a student to the Network?

A:

For a RETURNING STUDENT, simply use your username and current password to access the website. Then complete the registration steps and class selections. Send in your family registration fee and requested signed forms.

For a NEW STUDENT OF A RETURNING FAMILY, use the same family login as is used for siblings and complete all registration steps before signing up for classes. Family registration fee and new student test scores must be sent in and evaluated by the Admissions Committee before approval can be made for new students

For a NEW STUDENT OF A NEW FAMILY:

  • Read through all the documents about The Network that are available on the left hand side of the home page. These documents will be included in the registration.
  • Set up a family account when new student registration is open by clicking on the “New Family Signup” link. (Check the home page for the date.)
  • Log in with your new username and password.
  • Complete the registration steps. Mail in your student’s test scores and the family registration fee. After these are received by the registrar and are approved, you will receive an email that will allow you to select your student's classes. (You may be contacted to schedule a family meeting with the Admissions Committee. Soon after the family meeting, you will be contacted concerning your student’s acceptance to The Network.)
  • Select your student's classes.

Q:

How will we find out if we are accepted?

A:

After completing the registration steps, mailing in your registration fee, and submitting test scores, your student's information will be sent to the Admissions Committee. If all requirements have been met, you will be notified by email.

Q:

What do I need to know about the Registration Fee?

A:

Before you are allowed to register for classes, you need to send a check for $55 (payable to The Network) to the registrar along with the Parent/Student Covenants and the Medical Release Form. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Why does The Network ask for test scores?

A:

The Admissions Committee uses these to help in the screening process to make sure students are ready for high school level work.

Acceptable test include:

Q:

Do we need to submit test scores every year?

A:

Not usually. However, some students may be asked to submit scores for subsequent years if the initial test scores are low or the student is on academic probation.

Q:

What books or textbooks do I need?

A:

Click on the "Select Classes" button on the top left. Click on the specific class and the required books will be near the bottom of the class description.

Q:

What are the costs to attend The Network?

A:

Registration Fee: Each family must pay a $55 registration fee.  After completing the online Registration Form, the fee must be sent to the registrar before classes can be selected.  (Note: This is an annual fee per family, not per student.)

Class Tuition: Each class will be charged $72.25 per quarter ($289 per year). See "General Application Information" for the quarterly billing dates.

Books: Students are required to purchase their own books. Required books are listed in the class descriptions and also the "Required Book" link.

T-Shirt/Sweatshirt: Each student is required to purchase and wear a Network T-shirt. Network Sweatshirts are optional. The Network logo T-shirt/sweatshirt must be the outer most shirt or top worn. See website home page for ordering details.

Q:

Do the students enroll for 1 year or by semesters?

A:

Students enroll for one school year (August-May). However, a few classes last only one semester as indicated by their title.

Q:

Can the schedule change between registration and start of classes in the fall?

A:

Yes. Any class less than its specified minimum will be canceled. We evaluate the class viability through out the summer. Generally, we do not cancel any class until one week before fhe first day of classes. We will try to give everyone warning if a class will be removed from the schedule.

Q:

Do the students choose what courses they want to take or does everyone do the same thing?

A:

Once a family is accepted into this community, a student is free to take any one or more of the classes offered as time and skill level permits.

Q:

Do the students complete work for the week and then bring assignments for the Network teacher to grade?

A:

The parent/guardian will get feedback on the progress and skill level of the student through grades. However, how the teacher comes up with the grade varies. The teacher will test, judge and require enough student work to give a grade for the class. This feed back will be given to the parents/guardian at least twice during the year. The goal of the teacher is to help the student gain understanding.

Q:

Do I have to wear my t-shirt or sweatshirt every Monday?

A:

YES! There will be no exceptions from the first day of Network to the last day of Network. The Network uniform helps Grace Church staff identify our students providing greater security in the building.

Q:

How are parents involved?

A:

See “Guidelines for Admission” and “Family Agreement” tabs.

Q:

Where do I go when I'm not in class?

A:

All students must stay in the gym when not in class.

Q:

What does a typical Monday look like?

A:

Plan to arrive in plenty of time before your class begins. Go to the gym, drop off your personal items/coat and place your lunch order if wanted. (Note: there is a deadline to ordering. Check the “Lunch Schedule” for details of meals, prices, and deadline for ordering). The bell will be rung 5 minutes before class start time, giving you plenty of time to walk to your classroom. *If you are not in class, you are expected to be in the gym. Hallways, atrium, Grace rooms are off limits if you are not in class.

Q:

May students leave the building (Grace Church) during the Network day?

A:

ONLY if we have the parents’ WRITTEN permission AND the student has at least 1 ½ hours break before their next class.

Q:

Can parents visit The Network?

A:

Yes. Check in with the administrator in the gym.

Q:

Friends are not permitted to visit just to socialize.

Q:

How are teachers chosen?

A:

Teachers are screened for maturity in their walk with Christ. They have a passion for their area of expertise. They also love learning and they love high school students.
