Please read ALL of this page as our workflow has changed this year to register as a volunteer.
Greetings HERI Member,
Each year HERI hosts one of the largest used home school curriculum sale in NE Florida! Massive amounts of wonderful curriculum can be purchased at minimal cost and there are many readers and reference books to be found.
BookBuster is being held at Hillcrest Baptist Church (7673 Collins Road, Jacksonville, FL) on Saturday, July 18..
To volunteer, you must be able to either help us set up for the sale on Friday, July 17 or work / break down the sale on Saturday, July 18.
Requirements for being a HERI BookBuster volunteer:
o You must be a HERI member.
o You must be able to work one of the days:
§ Friday from 9:00 am to approximately 6:00 pm (includes workers shopping and checking out)
§ Saturday from 8:00 am to approximately 5:00 pm
The days will be broken down into 5 hour shifts. If you are able to work an entire day that would be appreciated.
Most of the volunteer activities consist of:
o Carrying and sorting books by category and grade level.
o Many positions will require walking and bending.
A COMPLETE LIST OF NEEDED POSITIONS WILL BE POSTED SOON.
Please wear comfortable, but modest clothing. This is a work day so wear work clothes that you can bend and move around in and don't mind getting dirty. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be moving all day.
If you have wagons, crates on wheels or dollies you can bring, these items will be a big help to move books from the floor to the tables, and to assist sellers bring books from their cars. Please mark or label your carriers so they do not get confused with someone else's carrier .
We also ask for volunteers to bring boxes for our sale. Printer boxes are great, but other boxes from Sam's, BJ's & Costco work great also. Office Depot/Max, Staples, UPS stores and friends who work in an office may have these boxes. We use these boxes as makeshift book shelves. We stack boxes on top of other boxes and put books inside of them. This keeps the books from falling over and gives us extra shelf space. It is not required to bring boxes, but it helps us get a quick start. (If you are collecting boxes, let us know as we usually spend a week or two prior to the sale on a box hunt).
During the sale, as people find purchases and remove books from the tables, it may be necessary to remove empty boxes and place them under the table. We will re-use these boxes during the break down to place books by seller number that did not sell.
HERI will provide snacks and drinks both days. For those who work all day lunch will be provided. (Friday’s lunch usually consists of sub sandwiches and Saturday’s is pizza. If you are in need of a special diet, please bring your own lunch).
CHILDREN WILL BE ALLOWED TO VOLUNTEER WITH YOU IF THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE AND ARE SUPERVISED BY YOU OR ARE AN APPROVED TEENAGE VOLUNTEER.
Additionally, for teen volunteers:
- At least one parent must volunteer with you
- You must be an upcoming high schooler (9th grade and above)
- You will receive a letter for your community service hours worked during BookBuster
- Parents / guardians must register teen worker(s) via a form with the BookBuster Coordinators. Guidelines are listed below with registration instructions.
- You must email firstname.lastname@example.org with children and age that you plan on having help with you.
To reward volunteers for your time and effort in serving HERI, you will be allowed to shop for your own personal books after the set-up is complete on Friday – at approximately 4pm. Yes, you will have first pick prior to the crowd that arrives on Saturday morning!
Cash, credit and debit cards accepted.
Last year, thousands of items were sold! Most of this money goes back to the seller. A percent of sales helps HERI pay for the venue, tables, supplies and the organization's annual expenses.
No childcare is provided. Volunteer selections are made on a first come first serve basis and you will receive an email confirmation as you are added to the volunteer list.
BELOW ARE THE GUIDELINES TO REGISTER AS A VOLUNTEER FOR THIS EVENT.
This year, HERI will be using consignment software to sell your books. The name of this software is My Sale Manager.
If you are interested in working BookBuster 2020, you will need to register as a worker on My Sale Manager.
If you are a consignor / seller, you may sign up as a volunteer to work the event from your Consignor Homepage.
If you are NOT a consignor / seller, you will need to access the Worker Login page and register as a non-consigning worker.
TEEN WORKERS DO NOT sign up via My Sale Manager. Parents / guardians must register teen worker(s) with HERI BookBuster using this Teen Volunteer Form. (So, we will be able to prepare their community service hour sheets and know how many teens we will have participating.)
As HERI is a volunteer run organization, we thank you for your willingness to serve HERI and our local home education communities through this event!
