When I am on the road competing, I do school when I am not on the track. I love that homeschooling allows me to pursue my passion!
We are not your typical homeschoolers. We tend to be night owls, work outside of the house and, oh yeah, we have a plethora of animals. My day usually begins around 9am. I work nights and tend to sleep in just a little bit. We make our breakfast, get some chores done and try and get school started by 10am. My oldest, 15yr high school freshman, will go off to his room and work on his school. He prefers for me to write everything down that he needs to get done in the week. He will join us for Art, Physical Education, and, of course, our field trips. While he in his room, I sit down with my 14yr ds and my 11 ½yr dd. We do math, handwriting, and grammar. They get to choose the order in which they complete these subjects. My only request is that they don’t do math at the same time. Sometimes I cannot switch gears quick enough. Once we get these subjects done, we have lunch. The kids will take a quick break and then I will work with my 14yr on his speech and dyslexia therapy. While he and I are working, my daughter will be reading, working on a craft or playing with the dog. In the past we have worked on science as a family, this year will be a little bit different. The boys will both be taking biology at our homeschool co-op, and my daughter will be studying the ocean. During the day we will fit in chores, taking care of all of our animals, reading, cooking and just having fun! I generally have to leave for work by 3:30. While I am at work they each have a couple of little things to do and then have the rest of the afternoon off.
