About Arundel Homeschoolers Support Group
AHSG is a nonprofit group of parents who currently homeschool their children and who strive to support the Maryland homeschool community, primarily in the Anne Arundel County and surrounding counties area. We offer members opportunities to connect with other homeschool families through meetings, events, and activities.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we frequently offered field trips and classes which our members coordinated. Because of the pandemic, we will follow health guidelines set forth by any facility we gather in and the municipality in which the facility is located. We also will follow guidelines set forth by the host member family for that event. In this membership year, we expect many of our gatherings to be virtual and smaller.
We are a volunteer organization, so all member families give their time and energies to creating a welcoming environment where homeschool families can enhance their individual homeschool journeys and where we can help homeschoolers in general with information and when possible, events and activities. Please know that in joining, you will be asked to volunteer at least once in the membership year. If you do not see something on the signup that appeals to you, please discuss alternatives with Kamika.
A special note to families who are homeschooling because of COVID-19:
The purpose of our group is to support homeschool families who choose to homeschool regardless of the pandemic. We acknowledge that homeschool is a lifestyle comprised of choices, needs, and preferences made by each homeschool family. We seek to enhance the homeschool journey for those families. We recognize the difficulties the pandemic has placed on public school families. We welcome the opportunity to help families who are temporarily homeschooling, but we ask everyone to understand that we do not have all the answers or ideas that may help public school families in meeting public school requirements or expectations in this difficult time. By joining, you are aware that Arundel Homeschoolers Support Group is not responsible for an individual family's homeschool curriculum, resource, or activity choices. Please maintain communication with your county's homeschool office and/or your umbrella, co-op, or tutorial for specific information related to your homeschool journey.
What are the steps to join?
- Complete all of this form. Once you complete the form and pay the membership fee ($35) by PayPal, the Treasurer will confirm you have completed these steps and will approve your access to the website and all of our event registration, member forums, and volunteer opportunities. Note that we only accept payment by PayPal at this time. Remember the username and password you submit on this form; you will need them to access the website once the Treasurer confirms your completed form and membership dues payment. Please pay the $35 dues within two weeks, or your request to join will be denied.
- Within two weeks of your membership request approval, we ask you to sign up for a volunteer opportunity by clicking the Family Volunteers tab at the top of our website when you sign in. If you do not sign up for a volunteer opportunity within two weeks of joining, you will lose access to the website and Facebook members' group.
- Request to join our Facebook members group, too; please answer the join questions as any requests without answers is automatically denied. Please type the name in which you joined AHSG in answer to the group access questions to enter the Facebook members group.
