About REACH High

Q:

What is the difference between enrollment & registration?

A:

Enrollment is the process by which a family joins REACH.  This is always the first step.  There is an enrollment fee on a per-student basis which covers the overhead costs to keep REACH in operation (website fees, storage fees, printer supplies, etc).  When a family's enrollment is approved, they are able to log into the secure portion of the website and register for classes.

Registration is the process of joining the classes of your choice.  This can only be done after a family's enrollment has been approved.  To help minimize confusion, we try to refer to "class registration" or "register for classes."  Most classes will have class registration fees that will cover the cost of the tutor &/or the cost of materials needed.  Some classes will have materials list for students to gather their own supplies instead of paying a materials fee.

Q:

What ages can attend REACH?

A:

Currently, REACH is available primarily for students turning 12 year old before September 1 of the current school year.  We will occasionally have classes that are open to younger students, and this will be clearly noted on the class schedule descriptions.

Q:

What is REACH Extension?

A:

In past years, when REACH classes did not meet the tutor’s minimum class size requirement the leadership team had the option to open the class to the homeschool community at large for enrollment on a first come first served basis.  This was called REACH Extension.   REACH Extension participants enrolled through a specified REACH High Leadership contact person and paid a $15 tuition fee to REACH to register in the class(es) as well as whatever class fees may apply as set by the tutor.  The $15 registration fee was per student, per semester.  Communication with REACH Extension families was done through REACH High Leadership rather than through the website.

This has become the model for how REACH as a whole is functioning beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.   All classes are open to the homeschool community at large.  In order to facilitate the class registration via the REACH website, families do need to enroll on the REACH website (this gives them REACH membership which allows access to the secure portion of the website for class registration).  There is an initial enrollment fee per student per semester plus class fees as set by the tutor.  Classes will fill on a first-come-and-paid, first served basis.

Q:

What is the deadline to enroll &/or register for REACH?

A:

Enrollment for REACH is open April-August (for the fall semester or complete year) and again October-early January (for spring semester).  The fees increase with later enrollments; there is a sigificant savings with early enrollment!

Class fees are expected to be in the mail within a week of registering for classes online.  If payment is not received in a timely manner, the student's space in the class may be forfeited to someone on the waiting list.

Class registration closes September 1 for fall semester and January 10 for spring semester.

Q:

What kinds of classes do you offer?

A:

Some families join a homeschool co-op because they want help covering some academic areas, such as writing, dissection, or personal finance.

Some families join a homeschool co-op because they want some fun electives that they can’t cover at home, such as drama, genealogy, first aid, or American Sign Language.

Some families join a homeschool co-op because they want a chance to learn some fun skills, such as cooking, sewing, painting, or small engine repair.

Some families join a homeschool co-op because they want a time for their children to meet and hang out with other homeschoolers. Classes such as book studies, gym, or strategy games provide the perfect opportunity. We are also offering a coffee bar & “social hour” for 30 minutes at the beginning of the day.

These are all classes that REACH High is offering this year or has offered in recent years, along with many other options. We try to balance free & paid classes, academic & “fun” classes, and older-focused and younger-focused classes.

Q:

Will I have to teach a class?

A:

In the past, REACH had a teaching requirement for parents. This year we do not have that requirement. Hoever, if you have a skill or a subject that you would love to offer to teach, you are WELCOME to put together a class! We’d love to have you.

Q:

How much will this cost?

A:

There are two types of fees:

Enrollment fees (joining REACH) $15-40/student, depending on enrollment date & duration

Class fees – some classes are free and some may cost up to $80 or so. Often, the skill-based classes have higher costs, similar to taking weekly lessons. Some classes have materials fees for books, workbooks, dissection specimens, food supplies, etc – depending on the class.

Hidden costs – we have an annual fundraiser to raise money for a thank you gift to Woodlands (they do not charge us for building use). If a class requires props (e.g. drama costumes), those are the responsibility of the parents.

Q:

Can I see what classes you are offering before I decide to join REACH?

A:

Yes, you can!

Under the menu button "REACH High," click on REACH High Class Registration.  This will display a schedule of class choices.

Hover over or click on class titles to open a full description of that class.  This will include more information about the class, tutor fees &/ or materials fees if applicable, how many student openings are available, and other details.

REACH High Enrollment / Membership

Q:

What if we only want to be involved one semester?

A:

That’s perfectly fine. We want to support your family with your homeschooling needs. If it works better for your schedule to only come one semester, you may choose to enroll for only one semester. Enrollment & registration will be open twice each year, so you can wait and only come second semester if you choose. However, please be aware that current students always get first chance to register for upcoming classes; if a class fills up quickly, you may be on a waiting list.

Q:

My children were in REACH Kids years ago.  Do I have to join as a new member for REACH High?

A:

If you are a former member of REACH at any age and had an account on the website, that should still be available. Please email Rachel at scott.rachel.meyer@gmail.com, and we can re-activate your family enrollment. Once you are active again, you will be able to log in, update your family information, and proceed with renewing your membership and registering for classes.

Please note that the enrollment fee is based on the number of children who will be taking classes. If you have additional children listed on your REACH account, please specify clearly how many and which children you are enrolling this year.

Q:

What if I have additional children who are not taking classes?

A:

When you enroll, you only need to include child information for the children who will be taking classes this year. If you have additional children listed on your account, please specify clearly which children you are enrolling. The enrollment fee is based on the number of children who will be taking at least one class.

REACH High Classes & Class Registration

Q:

Are classes open to parents?

A:

This will be at the discretion of the tutor or teacher.  Occasionally it can be helpful for a parent to attend a class alongside their student.  If a class is open to parents, the class description will make that clear as well as tell what the cost will be.

Q:

What if my child only wants to take one class?

A:

Students are welcome to register for only one class, for two, or for all three hours. They do not have to be onsite the whole morning. If they are waiting for a sibling or another class, they may bring something to study and stay in study hall. The enrollment fee remains the same no matter how many classes they take.
