FAQs

Q:

DROP-OFF

Can I drop off my student(s), or do I need to be on-site?

A:

FOR 7th - 12th GRADERS: Yes, please feel free to drop-off your Track 3 student(s) or stay on site.

FOR 4th - 6th GRADERS: You may drop off your Track 2 student(s), grades 4th - 6th, as long as they are signed up for THREE CONSECUTIVE classes (with the exception of the IEW class; see IEW FAQ for more information). Your student does not have to take the full day's schedule, but their classes MUST be consecutive, and they MUST be picked up immediately after their last class. You are also welcome to stay on site and/or sit in on their class(es).

FOR K- 3rd GRADERS: We require parents to be on-site with their Track 1 student(s).  The IEW Prep: Writing Fun class requires you to attend class with your student(s) to be their "scribe," if necessary. We also encourage you to attend the other classes with your child (although it is not mandatory), so that you can reinforce the concepts they're learning at Teach during the rest of the week.

Q:

GRADE LEVELS

You list grade levels for your classes. Are those hard and fast rules?

A:

Ultimately, the decision to extend acceptance of students outside of the recommended grade level (either up- or down) is up to each individual tutor. Having said that, in the past we have had struggling learners take classes that may be "below" their grade level, as well as gifted students who were able to take "above" their grade level. Situations like these are unique; we like to work with the parents to find the best fit for their children. Please don't hesitate to email us if you have a question!

Q:

IEW

Why do I need to be in the Track 2 IEW class with my student?

A:

If your student is a first-time IEW student at Teach Co-op, then a parent MUST attend each IEW class with their student. A grandparent or other guardian may also attend, if they will be the one primarily helping the student throughout the week. If your student has already had at least one year Track 2 IEW at Teach Co-op, then a parent does not have to attend (but is still welcome to).

Our tutor, Carla Taepke, finds that parental involvement is paramount to the student's success. The parent must learn the IEW method so they can help their student at home during the week, as well as confidently proofread the assignments. This class has a high volume of assignments and it's important for the students (and parents) to keep up.  The past has proven, year after year, that this method works!  The Board at Teach Co-op has also seen this work, through our own children taking her classes and growing in confidence, independence, and writing ability.

If you would like to leave after the IEW class and have your student be a drop-off student for the rest of the day (with consecutive classes), that is fine!  That is why we scheduled the IEW class as the first Track 2 class of the day.

If you have worked on IEW at home or through a different co-op, you will need tutor approval from Mrs. Taepke if you want to drop off your student in this class (and not attend as a parent).

Q:

IEW

Why are the Track 2 IEW Fundamentals and IEW Fundamentals Plus classes combined and how does that work?

A:

Our tutor, Carla Taepke, has planned to cover topics pertinent to the more advanced “Plus” student. Also, they have a more extensive IEW checklist, additional or lengthier assignments, thus more will be expected from them!  During the weekly lecture (70 minutes) the students are combined but each student knows the difference in the requirements and expectations. All the instruction needed for both Fundamental and Fundamental Plus levels is accomplished within the time frame of the combined class.

Q:

MISC.

Are you affiliated with T.E.A.C.H. Institute? Do I need to be a member of T.E.A.C.H. Institute to be a member of Teach Co-op?

A:

We are no longer affiliated with T.E.A.C.H. Institute. In the past, we were loosely affiliated with them, only because we purchased our insurance from them (but we had always operated independently).

As of 2015, we became our own, independent non-profit organization. You do not need to be a member of any other group in order to take classes at Teach Co-op. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at teachcoop1@gmail.com.

Q:

Due to Covid Safety Practices and Guidelines, Nursery Care will NOT be Available for the 2023-2024 School Year.

NURSERY

Can I have my younger child(ren) in nursery if I'm dropping off the rest of my students for the day?

A:

We offer the nursery, staffed mostly by volunteers, as a courtesy to families who need to be (or would like to be) in class with their older students in Tracks 1 and 2. If you have children in nursery, then you must be on-site at all times; you may not drop off children in the nursery and leave the premises.

Q:

PAYMENT

Can I pay for classes per semester, or do I need to pay all at once?

A:

Our policy is to collect all tuition before classes begin.  Our tutors make decisions on whether to run a class or not based on the enrollment, thus payment upon registration is necessary. We do not feel it fair to our tutors, who have planned for a specific number of students to change that.
