Q:

How do I navigate the Forum?

A:

1. Click on Forum on the Links Menu.
2. Click on any thread. A thread is the question that was posted along with the corresponding answers.
3. To search by keyword, enter your keyword and click on Search.
4. You may either sort results by the Date Posted or Alphabetic.

How do I use the Buy/Sell/Trade?

A:

The Buy/Sell/Trade, aka Classifieds, is our member's personal advertising area. We will follow all of our Buy/Sell/Trade forum rules to guide our use of this web-based tool. You will also find a nice explanation of how to use this feature here.

Q:

How do I add a Forum thread or discussion?

A:

1. Click on Forum on the Links Menu.
2. Click on New Thread. The Forum "Add Thread" page should appear.
3. Fill in the Title and the Message.
4. Click on Add when finished to post the message to the forum.
5. You may copy and paste text from other programs into the Message area. To preview your tex before you update, select Preview Text Below.
6. You may wish to change the appearance of your text with either bolding words, creating paragraphs, etc. We have provided some text tools for this purpose. Click on Text Area Help for complete instructions in this area. For example, to bold, highlight the text your wish to bold, select the "B" button. Select the Preview Text Below button to see the changes. Your text will now appear as bold. Experiment with the other text tools. You can bold, italicize, insert lines, insert paragraphs, create a hyperlink to another web site and create a link to an email address.

Can I change a message I've posted to a Forum thread? How?

A:

Yes, you can change/update any message that you have created.

 

1. Click on Forum on the Links Menu.
2. Click on the thread or question you posted.
3. Select Edit this Message.
4. Make the changes as needed.
5. Click on Update when finished to save your changes.

How do I reply to or add a message to a Forum thread?

A:

1. Click on Forum on the Links Menu, or on the link in the email.
2. Click on the thread or question.
3. Select Post a Message to this Thread. The Forum ? Post to a Thread page should appear.
4. Type in your message.
5. Click on Add when finished to save your changes.

Q:

What is a Unit of Service?

A:

Each member performs a Unit of Service which becomes their part of the Benefits of Membership that HEED provides to its member families. As a volunteer organization it is imperative that each member do what he/she has signed up for.

Each year as members renew HEED membership, they also choose their Unit of Service. The following have been popular options: plan a field trip; greet, set-up, or clean up at meetings; bring homemade treats to meetings; or help with the Resource Center or with a special event. There is a penalty fee for not completing a unit of service, unless you have been exempted by the Board.

There are other areas as well, and new ideas may be approved by the Board.
Exceptions are made for single moms, expectant moms or as needed and board approved.

What is the Honorary Membership?

A:

The HEED leadership team has decided to grant honorary memberships(free dues and unit of service) to parents who have graduated all their children from home education.  We value their experience, efforts, and expertise and look forward to their advice and wisdom as we walk this road called home education.
