Scripps Qualifying Spelling Bee
The Spelling Bee will be held on January 10th, 2020 at 1:00 PM
at the Burleson Public Library
The winner of this Bee will win:
The opportunity to compete at the next level Area Bee on Feb 4th at 10am at the Ft Worth Academy of Fine Arts.
A free one-year membership to Britannica Online for Kids (a $69.95 value)
The winner of the Area Bee will compete at the TCU College of Education Regional Spelling Bee on March 24th in Fort Worth.
The winner of the Regional Bee is eligible to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Eligibility: All Fort Worth area homeschooled students are eligible to compete in our Qualifying Bee, provided they have not passed beyond the Eighth Grade before February 1, 2020 and have not reached their 15th Birthday before August 31st, 2019. There is no minimum age or grade for participation, but is up to the parent's discretion (younger spellers are welcome to participate in our Just-For-Fun bee, detailed below). Spellers cannot have participated and been disqualified in any other Scripps Qualifying Spelling Bee during the 2019-2020 school year. Complete Eligibility Requirements can be found here: http://www.spellingbee.com/eligibility Please review these requirements and verify your child's eligibility before enrolling in this Bee. Complete rules will be emailed to those who enroll or are available in the "more information" attachment below.
Enrollment Fee: There is an $10.00 enrollment fee for each student who will participate in the Qualifying Spelling Bee. This fee helps to subsidize Homeschool Community for the expense of hosting a Scripps Qualifying Bee. Membership in the Homeschool Community is NOT required to participate in this Bee, and this Bee is open to any homeschooled children in the Fort Worth metro area who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements.
However, the Spelling Bee enrollment fee is waived for the children of current members of Homeschool Community of S Tarrant and Johnson Counties who have paid the family membership fee for the 2019-20 school year. If you live in Burleson/Crowley/Joshua/S Fort Worth or surrounding areas and are interested in joining our Homeschool group, and having access to this event at no additional fee, as well as to our other field trips, academic fairs, and special events, you can do so here:: https://www.homeschool-life.com/sysfiles/member/signup.cfm?memberid=1801 Our annual family membership fee is $20.
Study Materials: All enrolled participants will be provided access to the 2020 School Spelling Bee Study List of words. All Spellers will also receive a Certificate of Participation on the day of the Bee.
Just-For-Fun Bee: After the Qualifying Bee is complete, a "Just-For Fun" spelling bee will be held, for the younger siblings of Spelling Bee participants, or for any other students who did not participate in the Qualifying Spelling Bee. This will be an opportunity for younger students or less confident spellers to have the experience of participating in a spelling bee, with an emphasis on fun. There is no fee to participate in the Just For Fun Bee, but if you would like your child to participate, please do sign them up so we will have a Certificate of Participation prepared for them as well. We will use the 2019 School Spelling Bee list for this Bee.

Enter the participating children's names and select the Qualifying or Just-For-Fun Bee on the second screen. Once you click Finish to complete the signup, you will be directed to a Paypal screen to complete payment, if necessary.
