EarthSchool is a Maine nonprofit created in 2011 to grow an inclusive and supportive community of homeschooling families. Our member families engage in a variety of homeschooling and unschooling styles. EarthSchool now has nearly 100 families and comes from all over Maine!
EarthSchool of Southern Maine meets on Thursdays in Gray, in the fall, winter, and spring. Our second campus was founded in 2016 in Brunswick and has since migrated to a more central location in Augusta. EarthSchool Central Maine meets on Tuesdays.
We welcome all homeschooling and unschooling families who are looking to find an inclusive, energetic, and supportive community. ES is a cooperative effort, and all members help to teach classes, organize activities, and maintain our building.
What you can expect at EarthSchool of Maine:
- A large inclusive, secular, homeschooling "co-op" (collective), filled with many vibrant and diverse people that are supported by membership participation and a shared learning environment.
- A safe, focused, challenging, passionate, interactive, supportive learning atmosphere for the children of ES and their families.
- We meet from October to May for a fall, winter & spring session, 1x or 2x per week on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 10am-3pm.
Typically, most classes are one hour long with two classes in the morning an hour break for lunch followed by two classes in the afternoon. Our community has opted for a free-flowing open-ended structure to build our friendships and reduce stress as we collectively recover from the past 2 years of COVID. We are currently offering unstructured socialization, games, sports, crafts, and "popup" style classes.
* Membership responsibilities include serving on a committee and volunteering (as specified in the membership guidebook) to ensure our year runs smoothly.
