FAQs

Q:

Do I have to pay a registration fee?

A:

Every family is asked to give a $35 usage fee (cash ONLY, non-refundable) per family for the first semester they attend in a school year and $25 for the subsequent semester. This fee is used for repairs, printing needs, cleaning supplies, teachers' texts, gifts and whatever uses the leadership council deems necessary.

Q:

Will there be class fees?

A:

That depends on the class and the teacher's requirements. The teacher will let us know prior to semester beginning and we will get the info to you.

Q:

Will there be homework in classes?

A:

That depends on the class and the teacher's requirements. Prior to registration the teacher will let students/parents know whether there will be homework and how much to expect. If you don't feel your child has the time to do the required work then please don't sign your child up for that class. It is not fair to other students who work hard or to the teachers who give their time to prepare classes.

Q:

How did the co-op decide on the classes offered?

A:

The first year it was a matter of what classes we had teachers for and what rooms were available to use for those classes. Since then we decide by a surveying the interested families, choosing from classes offered on a list. The survey is then tabulated and the results are used to determine which classes are most wanted by the majority of people. Interested mothers meet together with the Class Coordinators and decide which of those classes we can actually fit into our schedule, taking into account teacher availability and classroom availability. We would love to offer every class that was mentioned on the survey, but that is just not possible.

Q:

Can my child attend just one or two of the classes instead of a full day?

A:

Certainly! However, the commitment requirement (equal to the amount of time your child is at co-op or three hours, whichever is less), cleaning requirements and fees for your family will still apply.

Q:

Do I have to help at Co-Op?

A:

Yes, it is a COOPERATIVE.

The word cooperative is defined as:

1. Done in cooperation with others 2. Marked by willingness to cooperate; compliant

3. Of, relating to, or formed as an enterprise or organization jointly owned or managed by those who use its facilities or services.

All of these definitions relate to what happens at GRACE Co-op. You will be required to commit for three to four hours per week at Co-op as well as fulfilling a cleaning commitment 2-3 times during the school year. There are lots of positions available and we can always use help! We do our best to accomodate each person's desire for their commitment position. However, we may have to assign you where we feel you are needed the most.

Sometimes we may ask you to do a bit more on a given day. There may be a shortage of workers that day and we may need you. Please offer to help if you are able...it's much nicer for us to not have to ask!

Q:

Am I required to be at co-op all day?

A:

No, we ask that you be present and fulfill your commitment positions for at least three hours during the day. When you leave campus you will need to sign out on the sign out sheet, so we will know how to contact you if needed.

Q:

I cannot attend co-op on a particular Tuesday. What should I do about my commitment position?

A:

f you are unable to attend, you are required to find a replacement for your position. This will greatly assist the Commitment Coordinator and Director as it is difficult when several people call and they must find replacements for all of them. If you have tried diligently and still cannot find a replacement, you may call the Commitment Coordinator or Director and let them know and they will handle finding your substitute.

Q:

My child wants to change to a different class...is that possible?

A:

We ask that any schedule changes be made in the first two weeks of classes. This is due to the commitment made by the teacher as we don't want their class to dwindle to a few students as time goes on. It's just not fair to them and also teaches your child the need to follow through with their commitment.
