What can Harvest Christian School offer me?

A:

Harvest Christian School provides accountability, support, and social interaction through co-op, field trips, student events, parent training seminars, and grades/attendance requirements.

Who is eligible to attend Harvest Christian School?

A:

Harvest Christian School accepts applications from any families who attend a Christian church whose beliefs agree with the HCS Statement of Belief. We welcome any families new to the area, or who are looking for a church home, to visit Harvest Church. 

Q:

Who chooses my curriculum?

A:

Academic classes taught through the HCS Co-Op have suggested curriculm. Parents are always free to choose the subjects and textbooks used in their homes. While HCS does not require specific Christian published curriculum, HCS does requires subjects be taught from a Christian perspective. We also require some form of Bible instruction each year. HCS is happy to help families find the curriculum that best meets their needs.

Are Harvest Christian School students able to participate in team sports?

A:

  • Student may participate in the Wiregrass Kings. The Kings are members of a conference open to both homeschool  and small Christian schools . Our association that has team sports year round. Any area homeschooler or member of small Chrisitan schools may try out for the Wiregrass Kings. More information may be found at wiregrasskings.org
  • Students may always participate in city teams as well as other Christian school programs if allowed to participate by that school.

Does Harvest Christian School require my child to take yearly standardized tests?

A:

Harvest Christian School offers the IOWA standardized test each year for grades 3-12, but  testing is not required.

Q:

Will my child be able to attend college with a Harvest Christian School diploma?

A:

Yes. Harvest Christian School has never had a student denied admission to their college of choice. Colleges are primarily concerned with subjects studies (e.g. foreign language, computer applications, 4 math credits, etc.) and ACT/SAT scores.

What is HSLDA? Does Harvest Christian School require me to join HSLDA?

A:

  • HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) is an organization specializing in the legal defense of homeschooling and homeschoolers. They represent individuals and schools in times of legal problem such and government over-regulation and charges of things like truancy and educational neglect.
  • Harvest Christian School requires membership in HSLDA.

How does Harvest Christian School set its tuition?

A:

Harvest Christian School charges the tuition necessary to cover its expenses.

How can I legally homeschool in Alabama?

A:

  • Church school – This is the option that most homeschoolers use in Alabama. Harvest Christian School is a church school. A church school is any school that operates as the ministry of a church.
  • Private Tutor Law – You may use a tutor who is certified by the state of Alabama. The tutor will report directly to the board of education.
  • Private School – You may register as a private school with the board of education. This option is still undergoing changes. As of 2017-18 the State Board of Education has stated they have no means of fulfilling state law, therefore parents may turn in a form stating that they will be homeschooling their student No further interaction with the public school is required at this time, contrary to the laws of the state of Alabama.

What is the compulsory attendance age in Alabama?

Children are require to attend school from age 6 to age 17.
