FAQs

Q:

“Why join TSHSI?”

A:

  • First and foremost, we are a Christian homeschool support group.  This is a place where our Christian values and morals are cherished, and openly and safely welcomed and discussed.  It should be appealing to many in the area that Tri-State exists to provide support to local homeschool families.
  • We are a long-established organization with credibility and committed leadership in our local region.  This lends itself well to our ability to rent space for classes and activities at various churches and venues.  We have the insurance necessary to protect our members should they be utilizing those facilities, which is required by many as building usage requirements are ever evolving.
  • We can be the hub of the wheel possibly to connect other groups that exist in our area, and to keep reminding folks that they are part of a larger community.  In addition to the fact, or more importantly, there are quite a few people who rarely, or not at all, participate in any other homeschool organizations, as they operate more independently, and we can provide those connections.
  • Our support group can achieve communication through a variety of means. The Yahoo Group, Facebook page (coming), website, and our activities will provide forums for connections and support.
  • In particular, there are activities offered that are not available if one is not enrolled with an official “school”, ie. Science Olympiad, Math Olympiad, Geography Bee, and others which have operated in the past and can be available again the future.
  • For those folks who are not in any other groups/schools/co-ops, we offer other opportunities:  Book Sale, Club Night, Family Night, Talent Night, Geography Fair, Annual Members’ Meeting.
  • Having a large membership provides opportunities to generate an interest in gathering a group together for other activities such as field trips, skating, bowling, swimming/dancing/karate classes at local venues who might not offer those classes during the day without having enough interested group of folks.
  • Our communication forums provide a place to share other items of interest which are non-homeschool related within a trusted community, ie. ask for reputable doctors, inquire about reliable tradesmen (plumbers, electricians), advertise items for sale, announce field trips or church activities, volunteering opportunities, job postings, etc.
  • We can even post information about upcoming meetings and votes on Legislative Bills, Pro-Life walks, Town Hall meetings, Common Core, elected officials, and other such items occurring in our government and communities with ways we can participate and get involved in affecting the culture around us for good and to the Glory of God.
