This year we will be reading from a selection of modern and classic literature.  Students will become book detectives! They will learn how to identify both the protagonist and antagonist, peel back the layers of the story to reveal how the characters, plot, setting, are used by the author to communicate the underlying story.  In class, students will be encouraged to freely share their thoughts and ideas. By gathering and analyzing the clues from the text students will be able to find the true message and intention of the author. With each book read, the students will complete a unique activity to further the understanding and deepen the connection with the book.

Books up for consideration: The Bronze Bow (Elizabeth George Speare), Johnny Tremain (Ester Forbes), Where the Red Fern Grows (Wilson Rawls), The White Giraffe (Lauren St. John), The Green Ember (S.D. Smith), Little Britches (Ralph Moody), and Bull Run (Paul Fleischman), Number the Stars (Lois Lowry), The Bark of the Bog Owl (Jonathan Rogers), Holes (Louis Sachar)
