FAQs

Q:

When and where does EarthSchool meet?

A:

EarthSchool has two locations.

ESSM (Southern Maine) gathers weekly on Thursdays from October to May in Gorham.

ESCM (Central Maine) will gather weekly on Tuesdays from October to May in Augusta.

Additional Gatherings:

  • ES Summer outdoor adventure group: through the summer months explore beautiful Maine, build and maintain connections with other homeschoolers.
  • ES Community gatherings: rotating location monthly through the school year for all our members (part-time & full-time) to build and maintain connections and participate (or not) in seasonal celebrations.

Q:

What types of classes are offered?

A:

Class offerings are dependent on what parents (and teens!) have volunteered to teach. We have 3 eight-week sessions a year in the fall, winter and spring.

Each 8-week session has a variety of classes for all age groups (ie: preschool to high school). Past sessions have included art (painting, drawing, clay sculpting, wool felting, sewing), theater, outdoor skills, cooking, archery, math games, robotics, creative writing, psychology, choir, entomology, ukulele, yoga, motion science, Spanish, and much more.

NOTE: Our community has opted for a free-flowing open-ended structure to build our friendships and reduce stress as we collectively recover from the past 2 years of COVID. We are currently offering unstructured socialization, games, sports, crafts, and "popup" style classes.

Q:

What is the age range?

A:

EarthSchool supports families with children ranging from newborn to 18 years old.

Q:

What does it cost to join EarthSchool?

A:

Our current membership fee for the year is $200.00 per family for attending either or both campuses. Payment plans and scholarships are available. Some teachers may also require a fee to cover the cost of supplies for a particular class.

Some teachers may also require a small fee to cover the cost of supplies for a particular class.

*We do offer payment plans and scholarships but prefer payment in full at the beginning of the year.

Q:

How much of a time commitment should I expect as a member?

A:

EarthSchool runs on the energy of its members. Families have many volunteering options to choose from, so all members can contribute according to their strengths. All parent members are required to participate actively on at least one committee.

Q:

How do I know which location to join?

A:

We recommend taking the time to learn about each location in determining which would be right for your family. Membership at EarthSchool permits your family to attend one or both campuses.
