Girls' Basketball Information

LIGHTHOUSE LADY LIONS BASKETBALL

LHSA Lady Lions competitive basketball season typically begins in midOctober. Registration begins in late August and ends on September 23.  Registration Payment must be made by September 23.

Girl's basketball is recently formed (2021) and is still in developmental stages, which means that our high school team may or may not include 13 year old (on Sept. 1) players, depending on registration numbers. We would like to begin to develop players for the high school team and are therefore inviting ages 11-13 to participate in a practice \ developmental team.

All 14-18 (on Sept.1) year old girls will automatically be placed on the high school team and will participate in games and tournaments as scheduled.

The practice team (if registration is sufficient) will attend a minimum of 1 hour of practice weekly, receive practice tees and will typically play only in scrimmages amongst themselves and/or the high school team. (If we are able to secure a couple of scrimmages at schools, that will be included, however none have been secured and may be unlikely.)  If a practice team member is brought up to play on the high school team due to skill level and availability, an additional fee will be required.

We will need additional coaches to serve should we develop more than one team. If that is in your skill set, please contact us at SETXSTEP@GMAIL.COM

The LHSA high school basketball program strives to develop leadership, team building, and Christian character in our team members. Our coaches have a love for the game and are dedicated to teaching the skills needed for competitive play. The LHSA Lions High School program is directed by Veronica Pedraza and coached by Sarah Carlock.

Quality of Play

Competitive basketball implements high school substitution rules. Unlike recreational programs, there is no guarantee of playing time or position. Playing time will be based on skill-sets, agility, endurance, ability, performance, attendance at practice and additionally, attitude toward coaches, teammates, referees and others. LHSA will strive to provide as many training opportunities as possible. Try-outs will be held with all registrants in order to assess playing skill and team placement. LHSA is NOT, however, a win-at-all-cost organization. The goal is to provide a program in which athletes can grow physically and spiritually and where Jesus Christ is honored in all respects.

Season/Practice

Season’s first practice will typically be early to mid October, but will be preceded by open gym meetings through much of September and October. A pre-season meeting for parents and players is required and will be posted HERE when date is available.  At the first practice, coaches will meet all the parents and players to go over the season and answer any questions. Preseason conditioning will be announced prior to the season start and requires a full commitment from players and parents to be in attendance, timely and motivated. Regular practice times vary although they are typically two-three times weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (may include mornings, afternoons and/or evenings) and continue throughout the season, except for game days. Once a complete schedule is obtained, weekly or biweekly notices will be posted to announce practice times, games and any upcoming tournaments. The season runs from October through February for high school and October through early February for middle school. Middle School division is a developmental team and may play fewer games than high school teams. There may be opportunity to play in at least one tournament as well. Its purpose is to teach the skills of competitive volleyball and prepare players for high school play.  LHSA schedules games against area Private, Christian, Public, and Charter schools, including at least one weekend tournament.

Cost

The cost of the season to play includes monetary and time/work, beginning with $200.00 for High School or $125 for Middle School(fully developmental,) requires an additional family membership with Lighthouse Homeschool Support ($40 annual fee that includes a number of other benefits) as well as minimum service requirements at home games and tournaments. Service at home games and tournaments is part of your obligation for participation. Only the registration fee is due for those who are current with annual membership, however membership renewal is due by July 31 each year, so please be sure your membership is current. A uniform fee will apply to all new players and previous season players requiring replacements. (Uniform cost is typically approx. $70) There will be volunteer needs as well as required service times and fundraiser participation. The cost includes the fees to one tournament. Any other tournament play will require a minimum player roster and will include a tournament fee, for which players may pay up front or host a fundraiser. We are trying to keep the cost to a minimum, but as cost of refs and equipment continue to rise, fundraisers are a required element to maintain low fees. There will be volunteer needs, required service times and fundraiser participation. Any team sponsorships obtained will contribute to tournament fees, auxiliary equipment and or coaching assistance. Players that secure LHSA sponsorships will receive free seasonal fan/family tee-shirts as a bonus-1 free tee for a tee shirt sponsor and an additional tee for banner sponsor! Any team sponsorships obtained will contribute to tournament fees, auxiliary equipment and or coaching assistance. Sponsorships obtained will earn players a free fan tee and/or discounted uniform fee.

We hope to form a developmental team for 5th-6th grade students should there be sufficient interest. This would include younger players and would focus on developing skills, but would not include competitive play unless there are teams in that age range to play.
