Building Trades Tour Series - Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers
The Building Trades Tour Series will be a series of field trips to the training centers for the different building trades set up about once a month over the school year. We will visit a training center, hear about their programs, and possibly do a few hands-on projects. This is an excellent way to check out all the opportunities available for good-paying careers in the trades that do not require college. Building Trades Apprentices earn while they learn and that is not modeled in any other occupation.
The different skilled trades available are boilermakers, bricklayers, carpenters, cement masons, electricians, elevator constructors, insulators, ironworkers, laborers, operating engineers, painters and glaziers, plasterers, plumbers, pipe-fitters, roofers, sheet metal workers, sprinkler fitters, and steamfitters.
This tour is of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers' training center located in Lansing. There will be a tour, a rundown of what their program is and what they do, and some hands-on projects. Transportation is to be arranged among the parents.
