Standardized Testing Requirement

One way to satisfy your year-end testing requirement is to participate in JCHE's group testing.  We use the Terra Nova test and offer a group discount on the test. This two-day testing event occurs in April each year.  This year's group testing is on April 11 & 12, 2019 at Selma Baptist Church.

Another option is the Woodcock-Johnson IV test.  Lighthouse Educational Services and Triangle Education Assessment both offer this one-on-one testing any month of the year.

For High School students,  taking either the ACT Test or SAT TEST, with the optional writing portion, provides both year-end testing and a benchmark for determining academic readiness for college.

The ACT with writing includes English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and Writing tests.  (Use 969999 homeschool code.  The PreACT offers 10th-graders the opportunity to practice for the ACT test with a shortened version of the test. It provides scores on the ACT 1-36 scale, as well as a full view of students’ college and career readiness by identifying areas of strength and improvement for student success.

The SAT with writing includes Reading, Writing-Language, Math, and Essay tests (Use 970000 homeschool code).  There are also variations of the SAT which are geared specifically for younger grades.  These include PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and PSAT/NMSQT (to qualify for National Merit Scholarship take in October of Junior year).

Many in our group choose to test at Smithfield Selma High School, Test Center Code: 162300 for the ACT and 34750 for SAT.)
