PLEASE READ THE DOCUMENT ATTACHED ON THIS PAGE TITLED:  "HMNS Statement to Parents/Guardians Regarding 2022-2023 Weekday Lab Operations" FOR HMNS CORONAVIRUS PRECAUTIONS. Again this year, HMNS is implementing safety precautions for COVID-19. Among their precautions are requiring masks inside classrooms if Harris County reaches the "High" level of CDC COVID-19 Community Levels, increased cleaning and disinfecting, and social distancing. About HMNS:

Exciting educational programming is offered monthly at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  Explore science, nature and history in interactive science labs which feature specimens, artifacts and laboratory equipment. Labs covering dissection, engineering, and anthropology are offered for students in grades 6 and up, and for the younger set -- wildlife, biology and time labs are just a few of the topics that will be taught.

Registered children get free entrance to the Permanent Exhibits areas of the museum on class day. One adult per registered child can attend free. (If you have 2 children in HMNS lab classes, 2 adults can attend the museum for free, etc.) Additonal parents/adults and siblings ages 4&up who do not attend classes can purchase discount tickets for $4 when checking in. Children ages 3&under are always free.

All children of the appropriate age attending the class will need to purchase a class spot. Siblings who don’t want to purchase a class spot are welcome to wait in the hallway outside of class or explore the museum with an adult in your party. “Sit ins” will not be allowed in the classroom unless they are too old or too young for the assigned age range for the class. Also, remember these are not ‘drop off’ classes except for students 16 and older (per museum rules), so one adult will need to remain in the class or in the adjoining hallway.

Please remember, your class purchase is not unlike a timed-entry ticket purchase for a movie, play or other 'event' and is nonrefundable and not eligible for date or time changes should your plans or schedule change.

Unless otherwise noted, classes take place at the main Houston Museum of Natural Science location down in the Houston museum district (Hermann Park, the Zoo, etc.) See the map attached below or visit the museum’s website.

If you wish to do the extra paid activities at the museum (like the Butterfly exhibit, IMAX, special  exhibits, planetarium, etc.) you may purchase tickets at the Box Office on site. Additionally, there are School Group/Field Trip discounted rates available to homeschoolers for which we sometimes make arrangements.

No food or drink is allowed in the classrooms or exhibit halls. If you bring your lunch, you will need to eat it outside, as HMNS will not have indoor tables available.

Traffic and parking can be tricky some days, so please allow extra travel time to avoid missing class. Homeschoolers can park in the museum garage for a reduced rate, or there is free parking available around Hermann Park.

Unless the museum cancels a class, all class fees are non-refundable. We have committed to paying for the class/event based on the number or registrants and everyone is depending on everyone else’s financial participation to make the event possible.

ON CLASS DAY:

Please try to be inside the museum at least 30 minutes prior to class start time. Check in with our Group Coordinator near the HMNS Box Office, and you will receive your Chaperone Sticker. You can ask to purchase any necessary discount tickets at this time. If there are large school groups, politely work your way up to the Box Office to check in. Please do not enter classrooms until the instructor is present. When the instructors are ready for students to enter, they will open the classroom doors. You may enter at that time. We will need 2-3 parents per class as chaperones, so please stay and help if you are available. Only 3 chaperones will be allowed in each class due to social distancing. Please allow even more extra time for the first day of classes. You will receive email reminders every day for the 4 days prior to the first class.

Must be logged in to sign up.
