Dear HSA families,

In these unsettling times, we can take comfort in knowing that our God is not surprised by anything, and He is on the throne! We need to remind ourselves and our children that we need not to fear because Jesus has overcome the world! John 16:33 What a wonderful and comforting reminder!

We have been in discussion with our leadership team for a few weeks about how HSA would respond to what is happening with the Coronavirus. We want to be wise and prudent as we proceed!

We are still in consideration about whether to cancel for this coming Tuesday, so watch your email and/or the website for updates, but it is inevitable that we will have to miss some days...

This is certainly a good time to be home schooling! Everyone else in the world is getting a taste of our lives now! ??

BUT,

  • Since we have committed to you to cover certain subjects for your children, AND..
  • We have great momentum in our courses, AND
  • Some of our teachers are dependent upon their HSA income, AND
  • It would be a huge, difficult task to figure out the finances for everyone to compensate for a chunk of classes..

We do not think it wise to just cancel classes, but rather we will be joining the rest of the world, and our teachers will be figuring out ways to teach online.

SO,

  • Stay tuned to the website and your emails for information - we have a lot of creative ideas in the works!
  • Inform your children that they will not be "off" from HSA like a "snow day", but they will need to work hard to stay on top of their work, and the teachers will be connecting with them.
  • Make sure that your email and phone number are correct in the directory, so students can connect with each other that way too!
  • Note that we will probably meet on May 19, which is our "make up" day.
This is a great time for everyone to really learn how to use our website, which will help us all in the future! You will find that it has a LOT of neat features!

We will inform you and keep you up to date as this issue moves into next week. Please make sure to check your email for more updates from the Home School Academy. If the coronavirus affects your finances so you can not continue to pay for classes, please contact Nathan Zampella at hsafinances@gmail.com. don't want to be a burden, but hope to keep moving forward together!

God Bless,

Lorane Dreyer (and leadership team)

Update sent out this evening:

Hey HSA families,

The coronavirus response is developing and moving very quickly.  Monroe Country schools have now closed.  HSA will also officially stop meeting physically until further notice, and we are moving to online connection as I explained in my earlier email.  I really do see the benefit of us all learning how to use and connect with the website better.  It will keep us connected and help us become stronger even when we get back together.  The teachers and administrators will be getting to work as soon as we can in all of this craziness, and we have our own learning curve, so please be patient and watch your emails.  As homeschoolers, we definitely have the ability to still finish our year strong!  Last week was the end of our third quarter at HSA, so we will be getting grades to you in the next couple of weeks.

A couple of things to note:

You can log into the website, go on any class, and type questions and have discussion on the forums.  Forums will be public for everyone in the class; we are expecting students to respect this space as classroom discussion.  Personal questions should be emailed directly to the teachers.

If you go on the "Beyond the Classroom" page, there is a box in the middle for prayer requests, and families can post there without going through admin.  Hopefully, no one will get the coronavirus!

We will be sending out more information as we can!

So thankful that God is with us, so we do not need to fear or panic!

God Bless,

Lorane
