Make sure you are signed up and paid up by the deadline (the Friday after Subsections)! After that, we will open seats for team family members.

9:15 A.M. team arrival/setup; 9:30 A.M. coaches' meeting; 9:30 team warmup; 10:30 first event.

Qualifiers from Subsection meets only. Top 2 per Section per event advance to the State Championship.

Admission: $8 adults, $5 students.
STUDENT TEAM MEMBERS: If you ride the bus or arrive early (team time), you can get a good parking spot at the fieldhouse and get in with the team. You will also be given a bonus attendance credit. :)

This is an amazing meet to watch, so mark your calendar regardless--and let's work hard and get some qualifiers!

SECTION 5A TRACK AND FIELD

2019 INFORMATION SHEET

Date: Wednesday, May 29, 2019

(Rainout date: Thursday, May 30)

Site: St. John’s University Time: 10:30 am.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. The coaches meeting will be held at 9:30 am in the press box at the SJU track to review the days schedule, format and scratches.
  1. Coaches and athletes will enter the track through the lobby of the SJU gymnasium. All spectators will enter either though the main gates of the football field or the lobby of Sexton Arena. Buses may unload in the parking lot of the Warner Palaestra, but then will be directed to another parking area.
  1. Spikes must be 1/4th” pyramid. No exceptions for recessed spikes. The shot and discus circles are concrete.
  1. All team camps can be located in the SJU field house. No camps are to be located on the football field. No non-running athletes are allowed on the football field grass area. This area must remain free of spectators and athletes.
  1. The time schedule can be found on the MSHSL website under Region 5A.
  2. 6. An Orthopedic Center trainer will be available throughout the day.

FIELD EVENTS

  1. Weigh in of the shot put and discus will be from 9:30 am – 10:30 am. in the field house of Sexton Arena.
  1. A ten minute warm up will be allowed between flights of the shot, discus, long jump and triple jump.
  1. Shot, discus, long jump and triple jump will have three trials, with the top nine advancing to the finals. The finalists will have three additional trials. Finals will begin as soon as possible after the prelims.
  1. Athletes must report to the event official if there is a conflict with their field event and another event. Athletes will need to report back to the field event within 10 minutes after the completion of their run or trial in their other event. Forms should be filled out by the athlete if this situation arises.
  1. Starting heights will be determined either by the games committee or at the coaches meeting prior to the start of the meet.
  1. Consideration will be given to qualifying standards with heights set at the standard for the pole vault and high jump conditions.
  1. Time limits will be enforced in field events.

PARTICIPATION: An athlete must compete in all events in which he/she qualifies. A violation of this rule will result in disqualification of the participant in all events which he/she is entered. Medical exceptions will be handled on an individual basis at the meet by the games committee.

TEAM POINTS: (8 places) 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1

AWARDS: Medals will be awarded to the top six finishers in each event. They will be presented on the awards stand on the infield grass. Team trophies will be awarded for the first and second place teams at the conclusion of the meet.

ADVANCEMENT: The top two individuals as well as the first and second place relay team, plus any individuals or relays that equal or better the MSHSL Standards will advance to the state meet.

FAT TIMING: A fully automated timing system will be used for placement and timing. It may be used by the Games Committee for their review. Hand held times will be used for a back-up system. Hand held times will only be used for the top six runners/teams.

HIGH JUMP/POLE VAULT PITS/HURDLES: Unless you are landing on the pits, please stay off them. Also, please stay off the hurdles. Do not stretch, lean or sit on them.

APPEALS: There is an appeal form in the packet. It must be filed out entirely and presented to a member of the Games Committee for their review.

PRACTICE POLICY: No practices are allowed at the site of the Sub-section or Section event two weeks prior to the event, except for schools that use the facility for their home events. Schools can be fined and/or suspended for not complying with this rule. Coaches can also be sanctioned by Region 5A and/or their own school.

TRACK ENTRIES: The deadline for track entries for the Subsections/Section is SUNDAY, MAY 19 AT 10 AM. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER THAT DATE AND TIME! Information will be sent out by the MSHSL for coaches to enter the athletes on the website.

FOOD & DRINK: Except water, no eating or drinking allowed in the field house. Please help us by cleaning up your camp!

CONCESSIONS & T-SHIRTS: Will be available through out the day.
