Q:

What makes HHE unique?

A:

HHE is more than just a place to take classes — it’s a Christ-centered community where families grow, serve, and learn together.

Our focus is on connection and service. Yes, we offer excellent classes taught by dedicated parents and teachers, but our greater purpose is to build meaningful relationships — with one another, with our children, and through the love of Christ.

Because we all serve together, HHE remains both affordable and excellent. Each family contributes, whether through teaching, assisting, or helping behind the scenes, and that shared effort creates something truly special.

HHE isn’t a drop-off program — it’s a place for families who want to be actively involved, invest in community, and model Christian service to their children. If you’re looking for a co-op that keeps Christ at the center, values teamwork, and fosters real friendships, you’ll feel right at home here.

Q:

When does HHE meet?

A:

HHE Schedule and Activities

Meeting Times:

  • Thursdays during the Fall and Spring Semesters

  • 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

  • Includes three class periods, lunch together, and chapel

Attendance Expectations:

  • Most families stay for all three periods, but it’s not required

  • Each family is asked to attend at least two class periods

  • Chapel attendance (20 minutes) is required for the sake of community

Additional Activities Each Semester:

  • Field trips, usually once a month

  • Game Night Hangouts once a month on Fridays for 6th–12th graders

  • Game Nights once a semester for 3rd–6th graders (includes laser tag)

  • Moms’ Nights Out

  • Service projects

  • Park Day in the Fall and Field Day in the Spring

Q:

How much does it cost to join?

A:

Each semester includes the following:

  • Family Registration Fee: $35 — Helps cover operating costs.

  • Facilities Fee: $15 per family — Paid directly to the church to support use of the facilities.

  • Class Supply Fees: Typically $15–$30 per class, depending on materials needed.

Q:

When is money due?

A:

We ask that all fees be paid two weeks after registration. Checks made out to 'HHE' can be mailed or dropped of or cash scheduled to be dropped of works as well.

Q:

What if I would like to not teach?

A:

We understand that not everyone feels confident or ready to teach, but we also know many hands make light work, so have some easy no prep classes as options as well. Our co-op thrives because each family contributes.

There are many easy ways to help, even if you prefer not to lead a class:

  • Facilitate no-prep classes like LEGO free play, KEVA building, or a games class (materials are provided) with an assistant.

  • Help with big event setup or cleanup like field day, presentation night food/drink displays, etc, help manage a support team (such as Helping Hands), or assist with organization tasks like organizing areas HHE stores items once a semester.

  • Use your creative or administrative skills on projects such as publications or the yearbook team when openings are available.

Because we want to share the workload and prevent burnout among our teachers, priority registration is given to families willing to teach or facilitate. However, we always do our best to find a meaningful way for every parent to contribute that fits their comfort level and strengths.

Q:

Do I have to sign a Statement of Faith?

A:

Yes. HHE is a community of Christian families. Because every parent has the opportunity to teach, assist, and invest in our students, a shared faith in Jesus Christ is essential. Though many denominations are represented at HHE, a central focus on salvation through Christ alone remains the common thread.

HHE is not simply hosted by Hillcrest Baptist Church—it is a ministry of the church. As such:

  • We are guided and submit to the Pastor of Hillcrest Baptist

  • We adhere to Hillcrest Baptist Church’s beliefs and Statement of Faith.

  • We adhere to the Hillcrest Baptist Church's statement on biblical marriage.

  • Class materials and curriculum when biblical are reviewed by Pastor Heath

  • Families who register are asked to sign the following Statement of Faith:

"I have read and agree to respect the Beliefs and Statement of Faith of Hillcrest Baptist Church. In doing so, I agree to conduct myself and see that my children conduct themselves in a manner that does not violate or contradict those beliefs while participating in, leading or teaching any HHE class or activity."

You may access the Statement of Faith here.

Q:

Why is there a mandatory orientation/interview?

A:

Each new family must attend an orientation/interview with the director and at least one leadership team member.  This is an opportunity to learn additional details, have questions answered, and tour the building.  Since each co-op is organized differently, this meeting is important so you know what you are committing to and so everyone in the co-op is on the same page.  The meeting typically lasts 45 minutes.  You are encouraged to bring your children.

Q:

Are Moms ever free or are they always helping?

A:

If attending all three class periods, it's possible you would be free one hour. However, those free become substitutes should any absenses hapen from assigned teachers and assistants, so occassionally would not be free.

We do have one to two rooms free moms can use to hang out in or do work, as well as hallway chairs that are quiet places to multi task.

Q:

What additional social events and extras do you have besides classes?

A:

We currently have:
*Once a month game night for 6th-12th (two of those being laser tag as well as games)
*Once a semester game night and laser tag for 3rd-6th graders
*Once a semester at least for Mom's Night
*Teacher Appreciation dinner to celebrate teachers

Q:

What is the Tween/Teen Game Night Include?

Each hangout includes:

  • A relaxed time of board and card games

  • A lighthearted icebreaker or team game to kick off the evening

A:

I'm afraid we do not allow that situation, but check back in when your child is 5.
