Homeschooling Info
Notifying Oregon of Your Intent to Homeschool
In Oregon, parents are required to declare their intent to homeschool in the year their child turns 6 (six) by September 1st. This notification is sent to your local education service district (ESD) and simply states the child's name, date of birth, parent's name, and that you intend to homeschool the child. The contact information and notification form for your local ESD can be found on the Oregon Department of Education website.
State Testing
The State of Oregon requires children to be tested at the end of 3rd, 5th, 8th and 10th grades. Once a year, usually in June, SCHC provides a testing site with the required testing mandated for homeschoolers in the state of Oregon for 3, 5, 8 & 10th graders. To prepare your student for this test, you can purchase practice tests, assessment tools, books and other products from Basic Skills at: https://www.basicskills.net/product-category/practice-tests/. For questions regarding state testing, please contact us.
Testing this year will be on June 3, 2022. Registration is from 9:30-10 am, but please contact Sheenah by April 30th, so we know how many children will be testing. Testing will by from 10:00-12:30. It costs $45 for the basic test, they will mail results to you a few weeks after test.
