Welcome to
Queen City Homeschool Collective!

Queen City Homeschool Collective is a dynamic group of homeschooling families from diverse backgrounds who share a common goal: to create an outstanding inclusive and nurturing learning community that serves homeschoolers in the city of Buffalo and the surrounding area.

Working together, we have made it our mission to create a community that fosters a love of learning, encourages civic involvement, and functions as an inclusive space for our children to form lasting friendships regardless of race, ethnicity, class, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, or national origin.

In contrast to the traditional school model — and the traditional homeschool co-op model that is often closely patterned after it — QCHSC aims to provide engaging learning opportunities, including core curriculum and enrichment, in a largely interest-led context. Our classes are presented by our own members and people from the larger community that have a passion for a topic or skill and a willingness to share and explore with our learners, through both traditional and innovative approaches.

Classes are offered in two 12-week sessions: in the fall (September-December) and winter/spring (January 28-April 28). Our offerings are leveled by recommended ages rather than "grade level," allowing flexibility for parents and learners to decide whether a particular offering is appropriate for them. For Spring 2020, sequences of classes are arranged into age-range tracks throughout the day, but learners may choose to take as many — or as few — classes as they wish, and welcome to socialize when not in class. Free clubs and other activities are offered as interest arises. Our learners need a grown-up to remain onsite at all times. To ensure a safe and supportive learning environment, each family is asked to volunteer for at least one hour a week to watch a hallway, be a helper in a class, care for a child whose parent is teaching a class, etc.

We meet on Tuesdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Buffalo Dream Center, 286 Lafayette Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14213. This facility features a several classrooms, a lounge, a gym that can be used for classes, and playrooms that are available throughout the day for the littles. The BookMobile of the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library visits on the last Tuesday of the month to support our community's educational and recreational material needs.
