FAQs

Q:

What do you offer?

A:

We offer weekly academic and enrichment classes for children of all ages, regular field trips in and around the Valley and a welcoming, inclusive, supportive community for parents and children.

Q:

Do you have a religious affiliation?

A:

We are a secular homeschooling group.  We welcome members from all backgrounds, and believe that our community benefits from and is enriched by the diversity of our membership.

Q:

When and where do you meet?

A:

Our Co-operative meets on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at a community center in Tempe, near ASU.  Our 12-week semesters run from September-December, and from February-May.

Q:

What kinds of classes do you offer?

A:

The class schedule changes each semester depending on what our parent-teachers offer to teach.  We encourage parents to teach classes on topics of personal interest or expertise, and we endeavor to create a balanced schedule that includes both academic and enrichment classes.

Q:

What are the ages of your students?

A:

Valley of the Sun Homeschool Cooperative offers classes for students in preschool, elementary school, and middle school.  We are not currently offering classes for high school students.

Q:

Can I drop my child off?

A:

No.  The success of our cooperative depends on the involvement of all members.  Parents must be on campus with their children at all times.

Q:

Do I have to teach?

A:

Parents are strongly encouraged, but not required, to teach.  Children whose parents teach a class will receive priority placement during the registration process.

Q:

How much does it cost?

A:

The cost of the co-op reflects the cost of our rental facility, liability insurance, and administrative costs (such as website hosting).  The membership fee is $125 per family per semester. Teachers also charge a class fee for each class to cover the cost of materials (generally $5-$20 per class).

Q:

How do I enroll?

A:

Potential members must meet with a Director of the Co-operative before joining; if an in-person meeting is impractical, a phone conversation may fulfill this requirement.  Please use the "contact us" link to send us your contact information, and we will get in touch with you shortly.
