  • Group standardized testing offered once per year

  • Every family can print a GWCHE membership card (find under member links). The GWCHE group number on the card may be used for a membership discount in Texas Home School Coalition (thsc.org) and Home School Legal Defense Association (www.hslda.org). You may also use your card at some local stores for teacher discounts on classroom items.

  • GWCHE members can advertise their local businesses in our Business Directory. Let other area homeschoolers know about you, so they can support your business! 

Activities and Events

The following activities and events, as well as others, are offered each year or have been offered in the past dependent on members volunteering to lead:

  • New Homeschool Support

  • Middle School and High School Social Events

  • Mom’s Night Out - A time of fellowship with like-minded homeschooling moms!

  • Park Day- WeeklyLet the kids play and the parents visit. Park location to be determined each month.

  • Field Trips- At least one outing per month - Occurring throughout the school year, GWCHE-organized field trips are a gem — a true can’t-miss for so many of our GWCHE families. Our Field Trip team organizes many, but they’ve set up a great system so you can organize your own for the group. Field Trips are a great opportunity to walk and learn alongside other GWCHE families.

  • Resource Fair- August - Held in August at the first GWCHE General Meeting, the Resource Fair features representatives from local organizations offering classes, resources or other benefits to the homeschool community.

  • Used Curriculum Sale- August (with Resource Fair) - This is a great opportunity to clear out materials you no longer need and find great savings on the home school materials you’ve been looking for.

  • Back to School Party- August - Held in August, the Back to School event is a fun kick off to the school year! We reserve a Pool, Skating Rink, or another facility on a special evening just for us – fun for the whole family!

  • Math Bee- October - A fun math competition for 1st Grade- High School. Students will take a grade level math test to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in each grade.

  • History & Geography Showcase- November - Usually held in the November, the GWCHE History & Geography Showcase  welcomes projects or presentations of all shapes and sizes from all grades (PreK-12). Students in grades 5-12 may be interested in participating in the Regional History Fair held at Baylor University in February after our fair.

  • Market Day- November - Homeschoolers can sell their hand-made goods in time for Christmas. 

  • Science Fair- January - Held in January, the Science Fair is a great way for your child to develop scientific abilities. Students in grades 6+ may be interested in participating in the Central Texas Science & Engineering Fair with their work from our fair.

  • Arts Festival- February - A celebration of student artistic achievements featuring art, music, and recitations.

  • Spelling Bee- April - A non-elimination spelling bee held in the spring for students K-9. Small prizes to all participants and trophies to winners in each grade.

  • Standardized Testing- May - Iowa Basic Skills Achievement Testing is done in early May.

  • Field Day/ End of Year Party-  May - This event for GWCHE children grades K-12 offers both competitive and non-competitive activities.

  • Graduation- May - Graduating as a group is an optional opportunity for GWCHE seniors.
