For Students

Student Responsibilities

“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”  1 Timothy 4:12

  1. Love God (Deuteronomy 12:28)

  2. Respect Authority (Hebrews 13:17)

  3. Consider Others (Philippians 2:4)

  4. Be a Good Steward (Colossians 3:23-24)

Student Homework Policy

As a part of Signature Co-op, students are expected to complete all of the assignments posted on the spreadsheet each week. Access to the internet and a printer will be necessary to complete the homework every week. They are also responsible for doing their very best work and turning in assignments on time. If for some reason they are unable to complete the work due to a family emergency or special circumstance, the parent will need to contact all their child’s teachers before class on Tuesday explaining this. Students will also make arrangements to turn in any missed assignments.

If a student demonstrates a pattern of missed homework assignments, he or she will need to have a parent/teacher conference to evaluate the necessary steps to take to improve. The grade level liaison may be asked to assist.  Signature reserves the right to suggest movement to a lower grade or departure from the co-op in the event that a student continues to miss multiple assignments, cannot keep up with the assigned work, or consistently disrupts the flow of the class.

Opting-out of Classes

Elementary and Middle School students are expected to take the full slate of classes. Students in grade 9/10 may opt out of one class. Students in grade 11/12 may take classes a la carte. The deadline to opt out of a class and have tuition adjusted accordingly  is August 1st.

Student Discipline Policy

Signature recognizes that parents bear the primary role of training their children. However, in the Signature classroom, the teacher has the authority to manage his/her classroom. Parents are expected to be the first to correct their children when necessary and to reinforce the teacher’s authority. It is our prayer that all of our children will exhibit values of respect and self-control to all teachers, parents, peers, and church personnel.

Students are expected to adhere to basic moral standards of behavior and conversation.

Requests from the teachers should receive prompt and cheerful obedience. There should be no talking back or arguing with anyone. Students are expected to treat all materials and property with respect and care. Negative talk or attitudes are not appropriate.

If necessary, the following disciplinary procedures will be used to correct inappropriate behavior:

1.  For minor infractions, the child will be given a verbal warning and the teacher will follow up with the parent via email after class.

2.  In cases of more serious disciplinary issues that are disruptive to the classroom, the following should be considered standard procedure:

  •  Child will be given a verbal warning by the instructor, and the parent will receive written notice (via email) at the end of the day.

  • If a child is unresponsive to a verbal warning, the child will be taken out of class for the rest of the day. The parent will be called to come pick up their child.

  • If this disruptive behavior becomes a pattern the student may be dismissed from class and may be withdrawn from the co-op and no fees will be refunded. Any other participation in future co-ops will be for a probationary period.  Signature Homeschool Co-Op reserves the right to expel any student from the co-op if disruptive behavior fails to be curtailed.

3.  Parents need to be willing to allow the instructors to discipline their children according to the procedures outlined above and must be willing to abide by the instructor’s decision to dismiss their children from the class if the instructor deems it necessary.

4. We have zero tolerance for violent or sexually deviant behavior.  If a student harms  another child in any way, that student will be dismissed from Signature without a refund of fees.

Student Lunch/Recess Time and Breaks

Students must stay in sight of recess coordinator during lunch & recess unless they have asked permission to leave.

No students may remain in the kitchen or in empty classrooms during lunch and recess.

All students will be required to go outside for recess unless we have a note from the parent.

Students may not enter fields adjoining church property.

Students may not leave the building during breaks between classes unless they have permission from a teacher.

Student Personal Communication Device Policy

(PCD: ipod, iphone, ipad, tablet, cell phone, etc.)

  1.  No PCD may be turned on or taken out from opening at 8:50 until the Signature day ends at 3:00 (unless there is an emergency situation or teachers have given permission for an exception).  This includes the lunch and recess period.

  2. Teachers or other supervising adults may confiscate a PCD and hold onto it for the remainder of the day.  The confiscated PCD may be picked up in the teacher’s lounge (room 125) at the end of the day.

  3. PCDs may be left in a student’s crate, but since there is a chance for loss or theft we strongly encourage students to leave their PCDs at home.

  4. Students in study hall may utilize PCDs or laptops for schoolwork only unless given permission by co-op leadership.

Student Clothing/ Dress Policy

Students should dress in comfortable clothes that are appropriate for the weather since they may go outside. Please label hats, gloves, coats, sweatshirts, and jackets.  Footwear will be worn at all times and sneakers are encouraged for gym classes and recess. It is important that our attire is modest and in honor of Christ.

The fashion world is developing new styles all the time, and the styles are not always right or wrong; however, in a day of constantly deteriorating cultural styles, we feel we must set a minimum standard which will bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ.

 General guidelines are:

-Shorts should be a modest length (at least a 2 inch inseam)

-Dresses should be reasonable length, remaining modest if you bend over.

-Undergarments should not be visible through clothing or exposed (no see through fabrics, spaghetti strap tops, or short shirts)

-No strapless clothing

-No offensive logos on shirts
