CCHM Guidelines

As a ministry of Calvary Chapel of Melbourne (CCM), CCHM represents God and follows Christ’s example, and we share God’s Word with homeschool families. In 2Corinthians 6:2-3, we are instructed to “. . . giv[e] no cause for offense in anything, so that the ministry will not be discredited, but in everything commending ourselves as servants of God . . .”    We are told that “. . . the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” 1 John 2:6. We are not merely a “homeschool group,” but also a ministry for God.

As a ministry of CCM, we have instruction and guidance for ourselves in the Word of God. In the Bible, God provided all of the instruction we need to operate His ministry and have a Godly environment for all of our functions. In 2 Timothy 2:24 we are instructed that “. . . the Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth.” In addition, 2 Timothy 3:16 reads that “all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness . . .”

Please know and trust that our Leadership Team members and their families have agreed to follow these instructions and guidelines from the Bible. We are also instructed to be “above reproach . . .temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, . . . [and] be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity . . .” 1 Timothy 3:1-3.

The CCHM Leadership Team periodically reviews the material provided. If you find any of the links to be inappropriate, please email the information to cchm@calvarymelbourne.org.

In addition, CCHM provides information through emails.  It is the intent to inform the homeschooling families in CCHM of information the CCHM Leadership Team deems helpful to these families.  While we conduct a cursory search to determine whether the information is accurate or aligns with the Word of God, whether secular or Christian, the CCHM Leadership Team does not conduct extensive research regarding the many informational emails provided to CCHM and then to the member families.

It is always the responsibility of each parent to determine whether you review the information provided and what you do with the information provided.  It is not the intent of CCHM to instruct you in any area.  If you learn of additional information regarding any information provided by CCHM on the website or through email that is contrary to the Word of God, please notify a CCHM Leadership Team member by emailing cchm@calvarymelbourne.org.

Dress

The Bible provides guidance for our dress. In Paul’s first letter to Timothy, women are instructed to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly. 1 Tim. 2:9.

While fashion may call for the showing of a woman’s cleavage and abdominal area and show the buttocks (or underclothes) area with pants being worn down below the hip bone, we are warned in the first letter of John to “not love the world nor the things in the world . . . for all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16.

Moreover, it should be our desire to help others from stumbling in their walk with God. In several places, the Bible warns men to be careful with their thoughts about women (Proverbs 6:25 & Matthew 5:28), and both women and men are instructed to “. . . flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” 2 Tim. 2:22.

In response to these instructions and warnings, and the desire to keep a Godly environment during our events, the CCHM Leadership Team requires that all parents and children dress modestly and discreetly. Please use good judgment when choosing your clothes to wear to any CCHM event.

Please limit yourself to clothing that covers the entire breast area, covers your abdominal area, covers your undergarments, covers the entire “diaper” area, including the entire buttocks area. Shorts, skorts, skirts, and dresses should be a modest and discreet length and sufficiently long to not be in question whether it is modest or discreet. All members in attendance at a CCHM function should follow these biblical instructions and any additional instructions sent to you during the year.

Please limit yourself to clothes that are not so tight and form fitting such that it draws attention to the physical body rather than the character and personality of the person. Lastly, we request that you check your clothing for speech and language that is offensive and in opposition to Godly principles.

Appropriate swimwear for females should be modest and discreet and may consist of a 1 piece bathing suit that covers the breast and abdominal area, or a 2 piece tankini that covers the abdominal area and touches the bottom piece of the bathing suit, or a 2 piece bathing suit covered with a non-white, non-pastel colored, loose fitting, t-shirt or non-spaghetti strap tank top that covers the abdominal area; boys and men should be wearing swim trunks and not the Speedo type of bathing suit.

Kindness & Grace

Please remind all of your children to speak kindly to one another and that we are instructed, by God, to “let no unwholesome word proceed from [our] mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29. Because of the nature of homeschooling, families often bring multiple children of all ages to the CCHM activities. Please use this Bible verse provided as guidance to instruct your children to speak kindly to one another and carefully in front of younger children. Please remind your children that words which seem appropriate for older children to say may not be appropriate for younger children to hear or say.

Blessings at Calvary Chapel of Melbourne and Other Locations

As a ministry of CCM, we have, at no additional cost, privileges to use parts of the CCM campus simultaneously with other groups and ministries that are also a part of CCM. Because we do not want to abuse this blessing, it is imperative that everyone know and follow the parameters given to insure we do not interfere with other ministries conducting activities.

During the year, you will be provided with information concerning the locations, times, and dates for our activities. To prevent interruption with other activities on the CCM campus or other locations, we ask that you review any instructions provided for entering and exiting these locations. Generally, you will find this information in an email advertising the specific event or within the registration process located on the CCHM website calendar section.

Moreover, the CCHM Leadership requests that you do not let your children run in the church Commons area, climb or play on the stairs, or go onto any stages or into the sound equipment area of any room CCHM may be using.

Be sure to always clean any mess you may have made while attending the CCHM function. Because we are all homeschooling families trying to use our time wisely and also share our talents with each other, we request that you help the CCHM activity coordinator return the room furniture or other items to the condition listed in the individual rooms at CCM or any other location CCHM may be using.

If you need help at the CCM Campus

If you ever have any questions regarding CCHM classes, events, or activities while you are on the CCM campus, please go to the main church office (located on the 2nd floor, above the Commons area) to seek any needed answers. Do not go into Calvary Chapel Academy. The personnel at CCA do not have access to our schedule and our information, and we do not have permission to be in the school building.
