Christian Home Educators of Camden

Who We Are

CHEC is an informal homeschool support group in the greater Camden, SC area. Our purpose is to provide local homeschooling families with opportunities to support one another in the day-to-day challenges of homeschooling through our meetings and activities.

If you are interested in joining CHEC, please contact us at to request a handbook.

CHEC is NOT a third-option accountability association. You can find accountability associations and a copy of the homeschooling laws on the SCHEA website. Additional homeschooling links are on our Member News page.

How to Join CHEC

  • Click the "JOIN" button at the top of the webpage.  Fill in all required fields.

  • CHEC members are an integral part of our community and support system.  We ask that all members participate actively in the life of our group by joining a committee.  Committees might organize events for moms, for the group as a whole, or for students; other committees support CHEC events by creating yearbook pages, taking photos at group events, or helping to set up/tear down for events.  There are many ways you can serve!  Someone will be in contact with you to help you get plugged in to our homeschool family!

  • Submit annual dues.  Membership will be active upon recipt of payment.

What We Do

CHEC's original and continuing vision is to offer mentorship and discipleship through Christ-centered homeschool support. CHEC has a statement of faith (SOF) and guidelines for behavior that we require for membership.

In keeping with this SOF, everything we offer as a function of CHEC to our members is approached from a biblical viewpoint -- student co-ops, group events, special speakers, etc. Often, our small group discussions center around biblical answers for the issues we face as moms, wives, and homeschooling parents. If this is the kind of support you have been looking for, and you would like to join, please fill out our handbook request form. If you are looking for support from a different perspective, Carolina Homeschooler has support groups listed with their point of view, if known.

How We Do It

Small groups and Mom's Nights are CHEC's vehicle through which members connect, bond and fellowship. HERE is where you will find the "support" of our support group! Small groups provide a setting in which moms can get to know each other. Generally, small groups have a monthly Moms-only meeting, but they may also set up activities for the children of the small group members and "extra" activities for moms. Every group works best when members pitch in and chime in. Some groups have agendas and planned events, others just get together to chat. (There is almost always food!) Members are free to participate in any or all of the small groups available, regardless of their location, and to form new groups if the need arises.

Student activities such as field trips, middle school and high school hang-outs, park days, and parties are planned throughout the year to connect our kids with other homeschoolers.  Activities may be age-specific (such as our Boys' and Girls' Clubs) or may be open to the group as a whole (such as the annual Christmas Party).  Most activities expect parental supervision.  Some, such as the middle/high school hang-outs, are supervised but parent attendance is optional.

Co-ops are classes or activities offered by CHEC members to CHEC members only, to enrich the experiences of our children through education or fellowship. Co-ops may be limited by age requirements, class size, or other criteria determined by the co-op leader.  CHEC does not directly sponsor co-op classes; we simply connect parents that wish to share these opportunities.

Field trips are planned by individual CHEC members. Age and capacity limits may apply.

We have a monthly newsletter, distributed through our Forum, that includes group information. We also send reminders, updates, and community and class information through the Forum.

Statement of Faith

1. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, and of supreme and final authority.

2. We believe that there is one living and true God; an infinite, intelligent Spirit, perfect in all His attributes, one in essence but eternally subsistent in three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

3. We believe in the fall of man; although originally created in the image of God, through the disobedience of Adam, man fell into a sinful and spiritually impotent state, totally unable to justify himself before God.

4. We believe that Jesus Christ is the express image of the invisible God, which is to say He is God; that He became man, yet without sin, being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary; that He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin; that He arose from the dead in the body in which He was crucified; that He ascended into Heaven in that body glorified, where He is now, our interceding High Priest; and that He will return personally, visibly, and gloriously.

5. We believe that salvation is wholly of God, by grace; that God in love gave His only Son to die on the cross for sin, thus procuring the redemption of those who come to Him; that this salvation is not merited in any way by man; that this salvation is eternal in its duration and results in good works.
