WW II: Conversations and Context
This is a year-long discussion of key aspects of the Second World War from a variety of perspectives. We’ll hit on as many of the most important points as we can, with some flexibility for tangents and student interest. Names and dates are absolutely relevant, but memorization is less important than issues, ideas and understanding. We’ll follow a rough chronology but not a rigid timeline, covering everything from international diplomacy to economics, from geography to psychology, and from (military and civilian) technology to changes in the workforce. This class is about history in context: Why do people do what they do?
