Outdoor Hour-Collections #1000HoursOutside
Nature study is getting an update for the new year. I am hoping to create more of a Charlotte Mason-style study. A good resource for parents to follow along is the Handbook of Nature Study. To start with I recommend parents read pages 1-8. This is not required and is meant for parents to read to themselves.
This week's reading selection is Read pages 21-22 of the Handbook of Nature Study, “Nature-Study and Agriculture”. But in my book this section was actually on pages 32-35.
For this study, we will be talking about nature collections, how to choose one, how to display and care for one, and how to journal one. Notebooks and pencils are essential. I encourage you also to get a box for your child's collections. This is a good example: https://www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp... Other options are shoeboxes and egg cartons. Magnifying glasses are encouraged.
Nature classes consist of a lesson, possibly a craft activity, a nature walk, and time at the playground after. This event is open to members and non-members. Meet at the parking lot next to the pool.
Suggested items to bring: A notebook to use as a nature book, drawing or painting supplies, and water bottles.
