2021 - 2022 HGH Co-Op Information
The Home Grown Hearts (HGH) Co-op is an extension of HGH whose purpose is to provide supplemental academic and enrichment activities while building and strengthening relationships within the HGH community. The Co-op also serves to provide encouragement for parents and help for new homeschool families. The Co-op offers a framework that promotes fellowship for both parents and students alike, as well as providing opportunities for activities that benefit from group instruction.
Co-op meets once a week on Thursdays at Spotswood Baptist Church. The school year covers approximately 30 weeks of instruction that occur between September and May, with a winter and spring break period. Classes exist for all ages, babies through 12th grade. Courses may change from year to year based on the assessed needs for the Co-op. Each school day begins promptly at 9:00 AM with a Chapel service, followed by three periods of instruction that last 55 minutes each. There is a 15 minute break for refreshment between the 2nd and 3rd period. Dismissal from Co-op occurs at 12:35 pm.
Co-op is a parent led organization. Parents serve as the primary instructors and assistants for all classes. There are additional administrative roles that parents may volunteer for as well. Parents serve during two of the three periods. The other period is taken to connect with the homeschool parents in the breakroom. Every parent is required to teach a class or co-teach a class each semester.
A number of requirements must first be met before a family is able to participate in the Co-op. These requirements include:
- Member of Home Grown Hearts
- Class Availability (Limited class sizes for each grade level)
- Interview Completed by Coop Coordinator
- Completed Background Check
- Able to Teach, Assist and Help with Administration
